[Help] F4-424 MAX - RAM/SSD COMPATIBILITY

Post by lurgainn »

Hi everyone,
last week I bought a F4-424 Max and while I'm waiting for the arrive of four HD WD RED PLUS 12TB, I would love to expand the RAM to the maximum and to buy 2 NVME SSD. I already read the official "compatibility" list but I have doubts.
-- RAM --
It seems to me that the compatibility list include modules that all are 4800MHz and it seems that the CPU supports till 64GB 4800MHz, so makes any sense to buy 5600MHz modules (I guess not)? So it'll be compatible (and is it a best buy) the Crucial RAM CT2K32G48C40S5 that are 2x32 GB DDR5 4800MHz CL40?
-- SSD --
I want to buy 2 NVME M.2 SSD, one for the OS (128GB or 250GB) and the other for VM/Containers etc. (1TB or 2TB). It seems to me that the NAS supports SSD with PCIe gen. 4x4, but for SSD < 1TB the compatibility list include only PCIe gen.3. So can you suggest me a SSD with the characteristics I want that is available on Amazon? And does the SSD need a heatsink?

Thanks for any help.
Cheers

Hi.
If you purchase a 5600MHz RAM module, it will be backward compatible and downclocked to 4800MHz.
Limited by the 10 Gbps bandwidth of the NIC, there is generally no need to have to use a PCIe 4.0 SSD except for special use scenarios. You may also consider a PCIe 3.0 SSD.
