I've started to play around with my new F8 SSD. First I added a WD blue SSD to install TOS6 and tried to install some docker parts. After I decided to go with my installation I've added two WD red to go with a RAID 5 configuration. The size of my memory pool is fine. But I would like top replace the WD blue with a WD red. In other words I wanted to test a failure of the first SSD.
When I remove this SSD the system was still alive in the web frontend, no beeps, but the memory pool reported an RAID error. Switching off was not possible (Button and Web-APP). When I switch off with the button 10 seconds pressed, the F8 does not boot with TOS (triple beep).
Lessons learned: When the drives overview mark online one off my drives in the RAID 5 as a system drive. Than that is the reality. If the system drive fails, the F8 is broken.
What sense makes a RAID 5 when the first drive cannot be replaced?
Is it possible to include the TOS6 system in RAID 5?
Is the situation better when I use RAID 5 directly without TRAID?
Any suggestions to make the system more reliable?
Thanks.
TRAID on F8 SSD has only one system disk
Re: TRAID on F8 SSD has only one system disk
Without damaging the data, you can restore the factory settings in the TOS system to reinstall the system, and select another hard drive as the system disk during the system installation process. For specific operations, please refer to method A in this link. viewtopic.php?t=423

Re: TRAID on F8 SSD has only one system disk
Thank you for your fast reply.
So far, everything worked well.
But, a wish:
When I switch from TRAID 0 to TRAID 1. It would be great here, when the new and second disk B will be created automatically as (second) OS disk. In my case I had only the first disk A as OS disk. I was looking in the UI for an option to select a second disk for OS. But I didn't found one. With the second OS I hope reinstalling the OS is not required in future
For the interested reader:
I've tested method B, switched off, removed all drives, and after I've opened the page I inserted a new drive A (to reinstall OS) and the old drives B and C.
I don't know if I was not patient enough, but I switched off the drive after I've inserted them, since no new instructions have not been shown on the page after a certain time.
After a reboot the instructions have been shown in the page. I've opted for the detailed initialization. There I could see that now, with at least two disks, the OS ist installed per default on two disks (new disk A and old disk B).
After the device reboot, there were many beeps, informing me about a defect RAID. I've selected the new drive A (with OS) as new disk for the RAID and confirmed the warning that ALL data will be erased. OK, OS is something different than data. I accepted it.
In my case the installed APPs have been there, but I had to start them at the end manually and my users were gone.
So far, everything worked well.

After reinstalling TOS, you need to recreate the user accounts.hakest wrote: ↑11 Dec 2024, 07:28 Thank you for your fast reply.
