Re: TOS 7.0.0804 Official Release (x86) is Released for Update

Post by nitzer71 »

Since updating my F4-425 Plus to TOS 7.0.0804, I've started getting regular notifications saying:

"The UPS Connected to Device TNAS Has entered AC power mode."

My UPS is an Eaton 3S 850 connected via USB. There haven't been any actual power interruptions, and I don't remember seeing these notifications before updating.

Has anyone else experienced this since upgrading to 7.0.0804? Could it be related to the USB issues mentioned in other forum posts, or does anyone know what might be causing it?

I think it's been there since early beta, but I could be wrong. How often is it happening.

It definitely wasn't happening for me before TOS 7.0.0804. I installed the update on 28 or 29 July, and since then it's started occurring. It happened once a day for the first couple of days, and today (1 August) I've had the notification 3 or 4 times already. There haven't been any actual power interruptions, so it seems like TOS is detecting some sort of UPS reconnection or communication event rather than a real power change. I'm curious if anyone else is seeing the same thing.

OK. On models -424 and -425+:
Last such event was seen July 12. Previuosly I believe it was once every week or month but enough to know it happened. However, both these machines run as clients pointing to a remote tnas ups-server contrary to @TM 'recommendations.
On -221 models (one server, one client):
seen occasionally, insufficient system notices retained.

With a real power outage on July 17th at the remote location, both -221 machines observed a power outage, but neither of the other machines noticed it.

I have never raised it as an issue because it was outside operational parameters and never frequent enough to bother me. I had always suspected that it might be seeing the server version running a self test where it switches to battery and then back to mains fairly quickly but again, I have not verified that.

Does your ups have logs that can be accessed?

Hi.
What was the version prior to the update that did not have this issue?
If you encounter this issue again on your NAS, we recommend that you collect a system report before shutting down the NAS and send it to the technical support email address for analysis.

To accurately locate and resolve the issue, please go to TOS Desktop > Support & Help > Debug Mode, and enable debugging so that the debug logs can record the abnormal moments.

When the problem recurs, first restart the device, then download the debug logs and send them together with the forum link and your forum ID to our technical support email ([email protected]). After receiving them, we will analyze and provide a solution. If possible, please record the time when the problem occurred, which will be very helpful for our troubleshooting.
I did this already 2 times. The only answer I received wat the Docker System does not work properly and the recommendation was to disable it. This I tried this "solution" and the NAS worked for some days without crash or restart. But this is NOT a solution, I need my docker containers. My AI Research brought me to the information, that the CPU and the Sleeping mode is responsible for that regular crashes.

The irregular crashes, sometimes 2 or 3 tes a day, sometimes 1 in 2 or 3 days are from the very beginning, under TOS 6 and TOS 7, no version works without crashes. I have the debug mode constantly on.

Does your ups have logs that can be accessed?
Thanks for your detailed response.

The Eaton 3S 850 itself is quite a basic UPS and does not have an event log that I can access.

I think the NAS logs are much more likely to reveal the cause than the UPS itself. If TOS is repeatedly logging USB disconnect/reconnect events, that would strongly suggest a software or USB communication issue introduced with TOS 7.0.0804 (I updated from TOS 7.0.0791). I will check in the coming days...

I updated from TOS 7.0.0791 where I don't recall having that issue. It is basically the first TOS version where I get that issue since I updated from TOS6 to TOS7... I will monitor in the coming days.
