Re: How to Properly Install and Use TOS 7 on the 424 Series TNAS
I want to upgrade my F4-424 Pro's BIOS from V05 to V08 before I install TOS7. The instructions say to "remove all drives" before performing the BIOS update. I have 4 SATA drives with all my data(TRAID Volume 2), my OS installed on an NVME(Volume 1), and I also have a cache NVME. Do you recommend removing just my data drives before performing the BIOS update, or should I also remove both NVMEs as well?

You don't need to update your bios and, from what I can determine, you won't see any practical benefit. It is more of a nuisance as you should remove all of your drives - basically to avoid the nas booting into the wrong device wile performing the update. And, if you do go ahead take particular note of step 7. A couple of us seem to have got hung up on that step.
F5-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid

Your BIOS version does not require any additional adjustments to update and run TOS7 normally.

Re: How to Properly Install and Use TOS 7 on the 424 Series TNAS
Is there an issue list of what is fixed and addressed from MADN0101.V05 to MADN0101.V08?
I am trying to resolve an issue and don't want to update unless my issue is specified.

Any issues and cause is addressed in post 1 of this thread. If that is your issue then take note. If that does not cover your issue, explain in a separate thread for assistance.

I get it that this discussion is not about a changelog for the bios updates but just to put it to rest, please post a changelog on the bios updates so people will know how important or not important it is to update from v5 to v8 for example even though its not needed to get to TOS7. Or at the very least, link it where people can get this answer.

Agreed, would be nice to know if we're missing important BIOS security updates or not.erikcsellers wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026, 22:28 I get it that this discussion is not about a changelog for the bios updates but just to put it to rest, please post a changelog on the bios updates so people will know how important or not important it is to update from v5 to v8 for example even though its not needed to get to TOS7. I'm staying on V05 for now, the upgrade to TOS7 went perfectly.
