Hi everyone,
I have the same problem. I do suspect it is an issue regarding Apples built in software raid and the DAS. I am using an Mac Mini M4 and a D4-320 with 2 16TB HDDs in RAID 1. After short usage I had 2 drives fail. I suspect it being the issue already discussed in this thread, which is putting the drive continuously into hibernation (the interval is insanely short, the drives seem to spin down if not used for more than 60s). I suspect it is some interaction between the Apples Software Raid exposing the RAID as another storage device and applying the system settings (regarding hibernation) on that device. There is most likely no passthrough of those settings from this virtual storage device (of the RAID) to the physical hard drives and therefore the D4-320 then defaults to its (pretty aggressive) standard settings to spinning down after 60s of no use. (Which is a bit weird, since the system settings should globally apply for all storage devices, I suspect it being an issue on the DAS side).
My current workaround is just a script reading 1MB of some random file every 30s, since cached hits seem not to prevent hibernation of the hard drives. This workaround is not optimal in my opinion since it degrades cache performance, but better than dying HDDs...
It would be really nice if this issue could be investigated and fixed. An application where you could manually set the settings of the DAS directly (like after what time to hibernate / spin down the disks) would be the most straightforward solution in my opinion.

Re: [Help] D4-320 sleep issue on Mac
DAS follows the system into hibernation; frequent hibernation may be related to Mac settings. You can refer to this post for troubleshooting:
