[Help] f2-212 becomes unavailable

Post by alekslip »

Recently bought f2-212, not the fastest device but it started off ok.
In a week I noticed that the connections to the device was lost, probably electricity outage. My attempt to revive it were somewhat failure.
1. the device is shown as Offline in the TNAS PC. The ip is correct, same as in the DHCP on my router.
2. I can ping the device
3. The web desktop is unavailable
4. The mobile access is unavailable
5. The power button on the back of the device has no effects the device keep running
6. The hdd make noise, almost like it is either indexing something or someone is reading from it. The noise never stops, some process is running
7. The hard shut down allows temporary revive it, I can access the web desktop. I enabled the ssh access, but the when trying to connect it keeps denying the password (is it different from the login one?)
8. The device connection is available for a couple of minutes after the hard reboot, then the desktop freezes, the ssh connect attempt hangs, the device becomes Offline in the TNAS PC.

Additional info:
I have a 6tb drive installed, almost empty with some media files.
Media server installed
Plex installed
iMac time machine is enabled to backup to the NAS on a daily basis (not hourly)
TOS is 6.0.585.

Any idea what the problem can be?
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your efforts and contributions. We need to further confirm the following issues with you:

1. Access the TOS system and collect system logs: TOS Desktop - Technical Support - Debug Mode - Enable System Debug Mode. After the problem recurs, collect the system report and debug logs and send them to technical support email: support(at)terra-master.com for further analysis, along with the link.

2. If you can access the system via SSH, please schedule a remote meeting with us. If not, you can consider our alternative solutions.

3. Use method b: https://forum.terra-master.com/er1234

Thank you for your understanding and support.

The latest version for the F2-212 series product is TOS 5.1.73. Currently, TOS 6 software has not been released for this model. Please confirm the software version you are currently using. If the related issue occurs only after the device has been powered on for a few minutes, this indicates that there is no problem with the device itself, and the issue is likely caused by the TOS system, a hard drive failure, or the file system. If there is no important data stored on the device, it is recommended to format the hard drive and reinstall the system. This operation has a high probability of resolving the current issue.

After a number of hard reboots the system went into the restoration mode and suggested to initialise the NAS, it failed to load the TOS automatically so I manually fed it with the TOS 5.1.73 file. The data was lost, the NAS has been fine so far.
As for the TOS I had, it was this one - viewtopic.php?t=9727.
It says it is compatible with ARM, so I went with it.

I will let you know if I experience any issues again.
