UPS Compatibility List (will be continuously updated)

Post by GevinKe »

📢 Call for Sharing: UPS + TNAS User Experiences

Dear TNAS Users,
We all know how important data protection is. To avoid unexpected power outages, many users connect their TNAS to a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).

But one common question we receive is:
👉 “Which UPS works best with TNAS?”
Currently, the TNAS compatibility list includes several tested UPS models (such as APC | Back-UPS BK650M2-CH and Tripp Lite | UNP-1KBSHTF24SC), as well as other models with good compatibility performance (see details at: https://www.terra-master.com/global/compatibility/).
Given the wide variety of UPS brands and models available on the market, it is not feasible to test each one individually. Therefore, we recommend users refer to the list when selecting compatible devices.

That’s why we’re inviting you, our community, to join a UPS + TNAS Experience Sharing initiative. Your feedback will help other TNAS users choose the right UPS and avoid unnecessary pitfalls.

🔎 Why Share?
  • Save others from buying incompatible or underperforming UPS models.
  • Provide real-world insights (backup duration, response speed, stability).
  • Help us build a stronger TNAS community knowledge base.

📝 What to Share (the more details, the better):
  1. UPS brand + model (e.g., APC BK650M2-CH, Santak TG-E1000).
  2. Your TNAS model (e.g., F4-424, F8-SSD).
  3. Your experience (e.g., “40 min backup, smooth auto-shutdown”).
  4. Problems or shortcomings (e.g., noise, reduced backup in winter, delayed communication).
  5. Tips & tricks (e.g., recommended shutdown settings, maintenance habits, remote monitoring).
  6. Where you bought it (e.g., Amazon, official website, local distributor), plus price/warranty if possible.

⚠️ Notes:
  • Please do not share personal addresses or sensitive information。
  • Be objective and honest — real experiences only, no ads

👉 Your feedback will be compiled into a “UPS Practical Reference Guide” for the whole TNAS community.
Every post you share could be another user’s pitfall-avoidance guide or buying reference.
We’re looking forward to your contributions!

⚠️ Notes:
Regarding the issues of abnormal shutdown caused by insufficient UPS power and the inability to automatically power on after power is restored, we have prepared a temporary solution.

For the convenience of other users who may encounter the same issue, we are also providing the download link and usage guide below.
https://download2.terra-master.com/upsctl

【Usage Guide】
Applicable Model: TNAS on x86 architecture

TOS Version: TOS 6

Issue: After the UPS power is depleted and mains power is restored, the device fails to power on—either via power-on from AC or by pressing the power button—resulting in boot failure.

Root Cause: When the UPS is in low-battery state, the nut service may send a low-battery signal during startup, which triggers an unintended shutdown.

Solution: After receiving a low-battery signal, check whether mains power is present. If so, the shutdown command will not be executed.

Patch Procedure:
1.Upload the upsctl file to the public shared folder.
Image

2.Open the terminal and run the following commands:
mv /usr/bin/upsctl /usr/bin/upsctl.bak
mv /Volume1/public/upsctl /usr/bin/upsctl
chmod 755 /usr/bin/upsctl
setfacl -b /usr/bin/upsctl
Image
Patch update completed.

[My UPS + TNAS Experience]
UPS brand + model: APC Back-UPS BE850G2-GR https://www.se.com/nl/en/product/BE850G ... -battery/
TNAS model: F4 SSD
Experience: Got recognised and act as a UPS-NUT server to my virtualisation servers
Problems / shortcomings: Not seen yet but will run an extra test for this topic
Useful tips: Plug & Play this UPS got a switches powersupply which means there is almost none power consumption in idle state and no heat which could shorten the lifespan of the battery.
Purchase channel: Online local in my country.

Got a software request after my extra test. My hypervisors listen to the UPS NUT-server, when the NAS is reaching the low-bate phase they are all initiated a shutdown at the same time. That timing is exactly on the same moment...which means the NAS is so fast that it is shut down before the NFS shared VM's on the hypervisor are shut, which lives on the NAS.

Could the NUT "FINAL DELAY" be exposed to the GUI?
FINAL DELAY hypervisor 5
FINAL DELAY NAS 180

Solves the timing issue.

Hello! Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and in-depth thoughts on this feature. We have clearly received your idea of "resolving the timing issue by setting a shutdown delay" and will take it seriously.

Regarding your request, here are two practical considerations to share with you:

Although the NAS currently supports UPS emergency response, the actual backup time of the UPS can vary due to battery wear and system load. This means that if you set a fixed delay (e.g., 180 seconds), in reality the UPS might shut down in only 60 seconds, which still cannot fully avoid the risk of data loss.

From a data security perspective, when an unexpected power outage triggers UPS protection, we currently recommend manual intervention to properly handle running programs (such as virtual machine data synchronization) in order to reduce additional risks caused by uncontrollable factors.

That said, your suggestion is very valuable for improving the user experience. We have already forwarded the request to add a FINAL DELAY setting in the GUI to our product team. They will evaluate its technical feasibility and overall data protection strategy in internal discussions.

In addition, to facilitate community discussions and ongoing updates, we recommend posting such feature suggestions in the “Suggestions & Feedback” section of the community. We will keep responding with progress there, and it will also allow more users to join the discussion.

1. UPS brand + model: PowerWalker VI2200 5HL IEC
2. TNAS model: F6-424 Max - TOS 6.0.770
3. Experience: No experience as the functionality is not available
4. Problems / shortcomings: The UPS is only recognized occasionally. If it has been recognized, it will be deactivated again the next time you visit the Hardware & Power settings. A UPS server functionality for other devices in the network is then of course also not possible.
5. Useful tips: yes i need useful tips
