Unable to install VirtualBox - "NoSuchKey" Error

Post by CodeTheFuture »

Here I am again, notifying you of an issue on your end.
Example config:
F4-424 Pro
TOS Version: 6.0.694-00165

I'm unable to install the VirtualBox application on any of my customers devices (your devices!) as it is broken on your end, and for some reason, you don't have monitoring or regular QA to see this is happening, and you need installers to report it to you after weeks of it being like this.

Hitting "Install" on the VirtualBox application comes back with a "The application failed to load. Please check your network connection or try and refreshing the page to load.". Note the sentence "refreshing the page to load" is wrong here and isn't the proper way to convey what I think your trying to here with English. Also note that there is nothing wrong with my internet connection and this message is a completely wrong response to the user about the real issue.

Here is the real issue that I've debugged for you. The NAS attempts to connect to

https://download3.terra-master.com/Apps ... x86_64.tpk

And receives the following response from that endpoint

Code: Select all

<Error>
<Code>NoSuchKey</Code>
<Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message>
<RequestId>6891AC5730856F3234700CBF</RequestId>
<HostId>tos-downloads.oss-cn-hongkong.aliyuncs.com</HostId>
<Key>Apps/TOS apps/6.0/x.64/virtualbox_TOS_APP_7.0.2.0.1010_x86_64.tpk</Key>
<EC>0026-00000001</EC>
<RecommendDoc>https://api.aliyun.com/troubleshoot?q=0026-00000001</RecommendDoc>
</Error>
Please fix this with high priority. This issue has existed for weeks now that I know about, and may be a lot older. Clearly you have some secret/certificate/API issue here. This is preventing us from deploying devices in at least 3 locations!

And while you're at it, why are we _STILL_ waiting for an update to this application a year later? VirtualBox is up to version 7.1.12 now, and this app is still on 7.0.2.0.1010 from October 2022 and released by TerraMaster as a package in November 2024! Yes you read that right, the version you shipped this NAS with was 2 years old when you packaged it! You want all the credit for claiming your devices are Virtualisation capable without accepting any of the support burden of ensuring they are always kept up to date with all your sold features. You can't have it both ways!

If you expect us to keep selling these devices to customers and not change vendors. I'm very close to this within our business. You need to be more agile than this. Almost all of the suggested improvement ideas have not been added to the firmware yet across the entire range.

Please do better.
Thank you.

Hi.
This is an old link that has expired. The APP Center has already automatically pushed a new app version. Are you still seeing version 7.0.2.0.1010 in the APP Center? That's quite strange.
Please try clearing your browser cache or use online download for the latest version:
https://download3.terra-master.com/Apps ... x86_64.tpk
We understand your need to use a higher version of VirtualBox, but we also need to consider stability and other factors. We will take your feedback into account for discussion.

Not that strange. Happened to me with update of ClamAV and I'm pretty sure others have had similar experience.

to be fair it is a bit strange that the app center is seeing an old version
as you can see version 7.0.2.0.1012 has been installed on mine since 21st July according to this screen shot

Ah yes, it is once again our problem. Not at all the fact your TOS is still pushing incorrect links and dealing with them incorrectly.

Yes, let me manually fix my own issue for myself, again.

After analysis, we have initially determined that your NAS may not be receiving the normal application update push. Please access the NAS backend via the terminal (which can be found in the "All Applications" section of the desktop navigation bar) and run the following command to check if the configuration file is complete, paying particular attention to the part marked with a red arrow in the image. If you are unfamiliar with the process, please visit our official website and contact Live Chat, where we can arrange for an engineer to provide remote support. Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Code: Select all

cd /etc

Code: Select all

ls .default.sys

Code: Select all

cat .default.sys

As I have told your team, many, many, many times.

"My NAS" isn't having this problem. MANY Nas's are. Here is my file... not so I can resolve this issue, I no longer expect this from Terramaster. But so I have helped as much as I can YOU TO FIX THE ISSSUE FOR ALL CUSTOMERS.

Read through my past ticket history to see how these files are 'not as they should be' and no... i haven't changed them. These are how they are and are in production. Any fixes to these problems must come via firmware updates and not manual tweaks. If you want to fix this problem, then do your job and FIX YOUR SOFTWARE WITH AN UPDATE.

And no, I'm not interested in yet again "contact terramaster customer support" so you can fix these types of problems as one-off fixes and STILL REFUSE TO FIX THE INBUILT ISSUES IN YOUR FIRMWARE.

Code: Select all

:/etc# cat .default.sys
[system]
defaultgwdev      = eth0
checkAndDownload  = 1
disk_write_cache  = 1
bb_notify_enabled = 1
smart_test_report = 0
Fanspeed          = 4
Autofan           = 1
PowerSet          = 1
I'm so sick of this. I'm sick of waiting for you to add the features requested or fix bugs with firmware updates. At this point, I'm done with Terramaster. If you expect to exist in 2025 with software like this that doesn't add any new features or fix any bugs in non-major updates, runs application packages like Virtualisation software 5+ years too old with "we worry about stability" as an excuse... I have nothing more than I can bring to your attention in terms of what your customers need from you. We are all worried about stability but if you can't update an application package or keep your NAS devices application store working over two years then what are we doing here?

No wonder people install Synology software on their NAS devices.
