It's really too bad this didn't work out, I liked it and overall it's a good unit with the exception of dealing with larger files and whatever the NAS was asking the hard drives to do, made the hard drives work louder than the DAS I'm using now. Could it be a defective NAS?

regarding the noise, how loud it is? i can't tell if it is normal without hearing with my ears. would you show it with a video?

I think the OP got something back-to-front.
The Zidoo has both HDMI in and HDMI out ports. All audio and video data is sent through that. The Zidoo can read data files from an external drive via HDMI and USB. Yes the Zidoo has wifi but my network is not fast enough to support the 25gb+ files so that is why I used the hard wire connection.

The Zidoo can read files from an external drive. I've connected many external hard drives via USB that have lower drive speed and none ever had issues reading even 80gb files. The 16tb drives are even faster than my portable hard drives so that wasn't the issue. I connected the NAS via USB to the Zidoo and there was still the file playback issue. The Zidoo has two USB 3.0 connections and another two USB 2.0 along with HMDI in and HDMI out ports. As long as the Zidoo can recognize a storage drive with the appropriate data, it can read the file and display the content.
I already returned the NAS and didn't record the sound. All I can tell you is the DAS I have now is much more quiet, to a point I don't even hear the drive seeking data from where I watch my movies compared to the NAS was noticeable and I had to close the closet door where I keep all my home theater gear to minimize the noise. This wasn't ideal as I want to get more airflow into the closet since there are multiple amplifiers and an audio/video receiver emitting heat.
I think you mixed up something.
A USB on the TNAS device is only play a role of host, can't be a device port, it can't be read by connecting USB cable or HDMI cable from any other computer or player.

I see, so regardless of the ethernet cable, USB or HDMI, the only way for a device to access the data is by wifi network? Does Terramaster offer a device that will allow devices to access the drives via network but also allow another device to access by a direct connect so that device can have maximum data speed transfer?

Just why, exactly, don't you connect the NAS and Zidoo via said ethernet cable network?
If you REALLY want to go via wifi, get a usb wifi dongle, install it on the NAS and configure itfor your wifi network. {Although, given the previous discussion, I understand if that is beyond your capabilities in this plug'n'play era}

I tried that as well, with the same issues. I'm on a 1gig speed with AT&T Fiber.
