Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
Applicable Models
TNAS models in the x86 series (please check the specific applicable models in the update notes before updating).
Important Notes
1. Although theoretically the update should not affect hard drive data, please ensure all important data is backed up in advance.
2. Carefully read the update notes and important notices for each version to ensure compatibility with your hardware and system version.
3. It is essential to follow the update sequence outlined below. Skipping versions may result in update failure or functional anomalies afterward.
Update Instructions
The TOS system updates quickly, and there are significant differences between the latest and older versions. Updating directly from an older version to the latest might lead to update failures or incompatibility of certain features. To minimize risks and maintain system stability, it is necessary to manually update step by step following this sequence:
Update sequence: (TOS 4.2.44---TOS 5.0.XX) → TOS 5.0.176 → TOS 5.1.24 → (TOS 5.1.145---6.0.229) → TOS 6.0.530 → Latest version of TOS 6
You can choose the corresponding step-by-step update method based on your TOS version (download links for update packages are included in the update methods):
1. If your TOS version is below TOS 4.2.44, you need to first update to TOS 4.2.44.
2. If your TOS version is TOS 4.2.44, you cannot upgrade to TOS 5.0 via the update method and must install TOS 5.0.
3. If your TOS version is between TOS 5.0.93 and TOS 5.0.176, you need to first update to TOS 5.0.176.
4. If your TOS version is TOS 5.0.176, you need to update to TOS 5.1.24.
5. If your TOS version is between TOS 5.1.24 and TOS 5.1.145, you need to first update to TOS 5.1.145.
6. If your TOS version is between TOS 5.1.145 and TOS 6.0.229, you need to first update to TOS 6.0.530.
Other:
1. TOS 6.0.420 --- TOS 6.0.500 beta versions need to check for updates in the TOS control panel and update to the official TOS 6.0.500 version before further updates.
2. TOS 6.0.500 and later versions can check for updates online via the TOS control panel. If you do not have internet access, you can download the latest TOS update package from the TeraMaster Official Download Center.

Re: Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
I am not seeing any excluded models in this post's Notes area. Does that mean TOS 6 now supports F5-221?
Your list above (step 5 specifically) is confusing... if you are at 5.145 (like I am) why would I need to update to 5.145?
From the above list (step 6 specifically) it sounds as though since I am at 5.145 currently, I should just do the 6.0.530 update which would upgrade and make me current.
However, before I do anything:
I was one of the unfortunate people to learn the hard way that TOS 6 would not work with my F5-221 and had to do a recovery via a USB boot disk.
I loaded the full 5.1.24 install file which worked without issue.
I then used the next update file in the series which was 5.1.40. No issue.
Next, I applied individual updates: 5.1.67, 5.1.79, 5.1.95, 5.1.123 and 5.1.131 All of these installed without issue.
I am currently on 1.145 for several months now without issue.
Please let me know if my F5-221 is now eligible to upgrade or if this post still excludes my model.
Thanks.

Re: Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
Hello, I'm still running TOS 4.2.X on my F2-221 which obviously only has the 2GB Memory and not the 4GB required by TOS 5 and above. I'm reluctant to attempt any further updates as my drives are quite full and it would take an age to back it all up. Any advice on if it's possible to move forward to the newer OS or if it would be best to potentially look at a newer setup for the latest OS? Thanks
Kind Regards,
Ashley.S. [Terramaster F2-221 & 2x8TB Seagate IronWolf NAS Hard Drive User]

If your F5-221 device has a factory date of June 2020 or before, the update to TOS 6.0 is not supported, you can check the S/N code, e.g. S/N: A2Y201200148 means it was shipped in December 20, 20 means year and 12 means month.UncleJohnsBand wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 10:59 I am not seeing any excluded models in this post's Notes area. Re: Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
The newer TOS5 system employs a different partition structure, which means that if you want to use the TOS5 system normally, you will lose the data on the disks. Therefore, you need to back up your data first.Ashley.S. wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 20:11 Hello, I'm still running TOS 4.2.X on my F2-221 which obviously only has the 2GB Memory and not the 4GB required by TOS 5 and above. After backing up your data:
① Connect all disks to your PC and delete all partitions/volumes on them using disk management tools.
② Remove the internal USB boot disk, create a TOS5-specific version, and reconnect it to the NAS: viewtopic.php?t=6433
③ Reinstall TOS5: viewtopic.php?t=423
If you have successfully installed the latest TOS5 and even want to install TOS6, please consult technical support.
Alternatively, you can purchase new equipment to use TOS 5 or TOS 6.

Re: Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
@TMtina - I am finally back in town where the TNAS lives and looked at the S/N on the bottom and it does not have the structure that you provided as an example. It is just a series of 9 numbers.TMtina wrote: ↑04 Dec 2024, 14:07If your F5-221 device has a factory date of June 2020 or before, the update to TOS 6.0 is not supported, you can check the S/N code, e.g.
So, if I understand correctly, since my F5-221 serial number has Y2004 in it, it is not supported because it is three months outside of the supported date, correct? May I ask what changed in those three months that prohibits the update? That's just disappointing.
Was it a processor change? Or memory?
Thanks,
Rick

Re: Release Notes for x86 Series TOS Update!
Can you not just format your disks, and then use the TOS 5 Bootloader and start from there?
That should at least get you back up and running with a clean TOS 5 unit.
