F4 424 Pro CPU Temps

Hi all,

Just a received a F4 424 Pro - but the CPU temps are really high hitting 90c constantly with the fan on FULL always.

I have change the power settings to:

Power limit 1: 13 000
Power limit 2: 30 000
Power limit 1 time window: 20

However its consistently at 90c - do I need more aggressive settings?

Also as a consequence the power brick is very hot. Is this normal? I don't think this unit will survive Australian heat at this rate....

Thats not alright.
On my F4-424 Pro, running DSM 7.2.2 Update 2, reported temperatures are 48°C at peak, mostly running at 38°C at idle.

Thanks for that, seems like I need to do a factory optimal defaults in the bios.

I hope it fixes the temperature issue for you, because 90°C is too much.
Check if the fan is working, and if the enclosure is not tucked somewhere in a corner,
where it cant "breathe".

I will look into the termal-paste (or pad) of the TerraMaster, and replace it with my favorite paste for years - Artic Ceramique 2.
It does not have the best termals, but it last almost ferever, one of the best paste for long running hardware.

Resetting the bios to optimal defaults fixed the issue - the CPU is now sitting in the 40c constantly, I have the fan on full, I'll see if I can have the fan on a lower speed as the next task.

And i will look to replace the fan with some Noctua fan, because i love good airflow and silence.

Just have to see if the pin-out of the TerraMaster fan matches the standard 4-pin layout.
I dont know why TerraMaster did not take the standard 4-pin connector like on any PC - it would be an easier way to replace the fan,
if it gets noisy or broken.

PS - The F4-424 has one fan header, the Pro version has two headers soldiered on the PCB, so i will if i can find the right connector to re-soldier my Noctua fan.

There have been a few posts on here regarding fan replacement and the appropriate wiring - but then @TM sometimes change things between models I suspect.

I can use my multimeter, because i only believe what i can measure. And the soldering iron will do the rest.
