Hello all, having a question about sleep mode on these models.
As per specifications these devices turn fans off when disks inside are in sleep mode,
but I would like to keep them spinning, as sleep mode introduces pretty high temperatures for me (high 40+).
I don't want to use software to write/read disks every X seconds to keep disks alive, I just want fans to spin 24/7.
Does anyone know what can be done about it? I could replace fans with Noctuas that have constant RPM speeds,
but I'm afraid there is some kind of circuit in the device to cut fans power off in their sleep mode?

Well, with given solution disk will not sleep/hibernate. I want the sleep function to continue working but it wouldn't hurt to have fans spin at some low RPMs.
Even when disks are in sleep mode their temperature is high. Additional air circulation could be useful.

For anyone wondering about the same. I think the only solution is to unpin the fans from the boards and attach them to externally controlled power sources - like simple power adapter that controls fan independently - example: https://www.amazon.com/Controller-100-2 ... 212&sr=8-3

Re: D8 Hybrid / D4 320 - Making FANs spin in Sleep
Just to confirm that everything works as I suggested. Original fans are 4PIN but their connect isnt exactly the same size as your usual 120mm PC fan, so swap wont work, unless you do some modding.
I completely de-attached them from PCB and used thin extender to have the connector out of the enclosure, then connected to AC adapter that controls the speed and makes the fan work 24/7, sleep mode or not.

Re: D8 Hybrid / D4 320 - Making FANs spin in Sleep
Noctua NF-S12A (but I think original fans are perfectly good to go as well) and AC Adapter with speed regulator set to level 5 (out of 10, which means it's like 600-800RPM) gives me idle sleeping temperature for HDDs from solid 50 degrees down to 37-40. Perfect result.
Hope the info helps anyone seeking the solution for similar case scenario where disks are sleeping 90% of time.
