I can't even safely turn off the NAS as I cannot access the control panel to select reboot or turn off.

Try use SSH (Putty app). Connect to your NAS IP address and port 9222

Thank you for the suggestion and I do appreciate the help. I did try to connect using Putty but it says "Network error. Connection refused"

I have gone to a desktop PC which is on our network and I have been able to map the shared drives which are on the server - so it is recognising the user name and password when doing that. Strange. I will try and press the off button on the front of the NAS and hopefully it resets and allows me to log back in.

If I have to reinstall TOS, I do have complete back ups of all of my data so that is not a concern to me. It's more the frustration and time.

When I do manage to get back into TOS then I will set up a second username with admin rights so that should this occur again in the future, I will ((hopefully) have a way to get back in. I can see from reading the forum that others have had this issue as well.

Thought I would update with my progress so far.

I tried rebooting the NAS and still cannot access TOS - still getting User Not Exist.

Since rebooting, I can no longer access the NAS drives via mapped drives in Windows.

I can still ping the NAS.

I cannot access the NAS through Putty

When running TNAS PC - it strangely finds two F5-422 NAS on the system. Each has a different MAC address. Only one has an IP address (the fixed IP address I assigned when I set up the NAS). The second one (with the 'new' MAC address) does not show any IP address. When I log in to my router, I cannot see the second NAS with the new MAC address on the system. Obviously, I do not actually have two F5-422 NAS - so one is clearly a phantom.

Plex is still working.

I plan to walk away from the problem until the weekend - at which time i will attempt to reinstall the TOS system. As previously mentioned, I do have complete backups of all my data - so this is just frustrating and is not devastating.

Try reinstall TOS on your NAS following the instruction: viewtopic.php?f=75&t=423
It is a data-safe procedure, it reinstalls TOS itself only, no data loss.

I have managed to reinstall TOS using Method B on the link given above, Thank you. Actually very quick and simple to do.

No loss of data and everything working well now.
