Unable to log in

Post by HeatherC »

I have set up my NAS this week. This is my configuration

F5-422
5x16Tb Seagate Ironwolf Pro drives (purchased new last week and all checked out as healthy)
TRAID set up
TOS 5.1.131-00123

All week I have been logging in via Chrome and setting up my media server (Plex).

Today, suddenly, when I try to log in I get the message User Does Not Exist.

I use Last Pass password manager so I know the username and password being entered are correct.

I can still access the server via mapped drives in Windows - which clearly shows the username and password are correct as they are stored in Windows Credentials Manager and are the same as those stored in Last Pass.

I have tried the following to resolve this issue:
  • Tried logging in via a different browser (Microsoft Edge
Tried disabling both firewall and VPN
I have not yet set up and standard users and so unless I can log in as the superuser I cannot access my NAS.

Any advice gratefully received.

Forgot to say - the only way I could see to 'reboot' the NAS would be to press the button on the front of the machine, but I am loathe to do this as I am unsure of the impact this would have on my hard drives.

Your system failed to update, please check if your TNAS meets the update requirement. The system partition needs to be 8GB instead of 2GB. what is your previous TOS version?

Hi,

There was no previous install. This was a complete new installation.. I chose default set up and let TOS do it's thing. I opted for TRAID. The only thing that was 'transferred' was all my media and documents files - which I transferred once the system installation completed. I also installed the Plex app (which I found on the Apps available inside of TOS).

I have no idea what space TOS chose to allocate to the system. Without being able to log in I can't see how I could find that out.

My NAS is a Terramaster F5-422 with genuine Terramaster 4mb ram upgrade. It is fitted with 5 x 16Tb Seagate Ironwolf Pro drives.

Assuming TOS has gone wrong in some way - what are my options for recovering access to the system?

I do have complete backups of all my data (of which there is approx 12Tb)

Please go to Control Panel > System Info > Overview, Check whether the capacity of "/" is 2GB or 8GB.

You don't seem to understand. I cannot log in to TOS at all. So therefore, I cannot go to the Control Panel and I have no way of being able to check the size of "/"

Chech whether you use any VPN applications? If yes - disconnect them.
Try login to your NAS using SSH application (i.e. Putty).
Try to ping your NAS - are there any answers of your NAS?
Try use TNAS PC app to find out your NAS.
Are LEDs on network connector blinking?

My NAS is working just fine.
I can ping it.
I can access all my mapped drives via Windows 11
I can transfer files to the NAS via mapped drives in Windows 11.
TNAS PC finds my NAS.
Plex is running on the NAS and I can watch media on Plex on my TV.

Everything is working just fine..... except that I cannot access TOS. I try to log in and it states USER NOT EXIST (even though I use a password manager so I know user name and password are as I set them up and have not changed).

This was a brand new NAS set up this week, with brand new drives. I opted for default installation of TOS and select TRAID. TOS installed version 5.1.131-00123. I have not done anything regarding upgrades or how much space is used for anything. TOS has selected all these things during the set up.

I can't even safely turn off the NAS as I cannot access the control panel to select reboot or turn off.

Based on the existing cases, it is possible that a combination of high utilization and other unknown operations may be causing the problem.
You can try restarting TNAS to fix the problem.
A short press on the On/Off button sends the On/Off command, which is the same as the On/Off button on the TOS web page.

Try use SSH (Putty app). Connect to your NAS IP address and port 9222
Locked

Return to “Network”
