M2 SSD not visible.

I just Upgraded from a TNAS F4-210 to a TNAS F2-423. I'm trying to use a 60gb m2 SSD to increase performance, but the terramaster does not recognize it as being installed.

Any tips or tricks I need to know about to get this to work? I noticed there were 2 unlabeled m2 slots; If only one is used does it need to be installed in a specific slot?

My m2 is also shorter, and there's no way to screw it in to make it fully secure, so I'm using electrical tape.

Really; That's an answer! We have standards for a reason. An m.2 socket should work with an m.2 device. What devices don't work, why?
Why is there no way to secure a shorter m.2 drive into the board?

Is there any limitation or benefit of going with gen3/gen4?
Where can I find more information on how the M.2 nvme drive can be used as a cache? The documentation that came with this device is non-existent.

The posts to secure any other size m.2 drive are only silkscreened on their internal board, with no means to actually attach anything other than a 2280.

The Celeron N5105/N5095 SoC used on this device, only has 8 PCIe Gen3 lanes, which are all consumed:

• 2 of which are being used for RealTek 2.5 Gbps LAN phy (×1 each)

• another 2 for the NVMe m.2 slots (×1 each)

• the lastly, SATA for the mechanical drives, provided by a controller on the backplane over a PCIe ×4 connection.

Is there any limitation or benefit of going with gen3/gen4?

It's only electronically PCIe Gen3 ×1, so it's a waste to buy & use any ×4 and definitely any Gen4 performance drives.

Technically any PCIe Gen3 2280 NVMe m.2 should function.

Aim for a PCIe Gen3 ×2 2280 m.2 NVMe SSD.

If you are going to purchase outside of their previously linked compatibility list, just ensure you are purchasing from a retailer that has a good return policy, should the drive not work & you have no other means to make use of it on a different system.

Terra-Master is not the size of its competition and thus doesn't currently have the resources to dedicate to testing every commercially available drive.

The documentation that came with this device is non-existent.
