I bought two devices a few days ago an connnected them to two different systems. The devices are teh Terramaster D4 SSD and the Terramaster D1 SSD Plus. My two systems are Mac Mini M1 with Monterey and Macbook Pro M2 with Ventura.
Both systems do not recognize the D4 or the D1 device.
Then I connected both devices to the Macbook Pro 2016 with Intel Chip from my daughter and both devices were recogniced. So the divices are ok.
So what can I do?
On my Macbook Pro M2 I installed the "HighpointRR Raid Controller" like recommenden here: viewtopic.php?t=2462
Maybe wrong becuse it is Thunwerbold 3?
After the Installation there is no difference. In System preferences I can see the new extension, but it is not loaded.
So what can I do that both devices can be recogniced from my running systems? I don not unterstand why it is not plug and play.
Thank You.

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
D4 SSD and D1 SSD plus do support thunderbolt 3. Please check, did you install any NVMe SSD into the device? what file system on your SSD? did you get the SSD formatted?
"HighpointRR Raid Controller" is not for the mentioned two models.

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
Yes, I have installed NVMe SSDs. In the D4 they are not formatted, in the D1 I formated the NVMe with the Macbook Pro 2016 to AFS.
The normal behavior is, that I get a prompt to initialize the medium, so it was on the Macbook Pro 2016.
But nothing happens, when I connect to my Mac mini M1 or Macbook Pro M2. So what could be the problem? Is it about M1 and M2?

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
Hardware drivers developed for Intel architectures cannot run directly on ARM-based Apple Silicon Macs, as they adopt different Instruction Set Architectures (ISA) — Intel uses x86-64 while Apple Silicon uses ARM64. Being low-level system software, drivers are highly dependent on specific hardware architectures and thus lack cross-architecture compatibility.

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
I know this, but Terramaster claimed that their devices running with Apple Silicon Chips and I saw many videos this devices connected to Apple Silicon Macs. So will you tell me the Terramaster D4 and D1 are not working with Silicon Macs??? Can't believe that this is the answer, or my english is so bad, that I misunderstood you.
On your productpage are pictures D4 connected to Mac mini M4, so this could not be a problem.
So why are these divices not recogniced to a mac mini M1 and Macbook Pro M2?

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus devices not recognized on two MacOS systems
If you look elsewhere online, it seems that Apple Silicon computers can have difficulty with either providing enough power to the USB4 or Thunderbolt3/4/5 connection (especially if other devices are connected) OR difficulty properly interfacing with the ASMedia chipsets:
- ASM2464PD (in the D4)
- ASM2464PDX (in the D1 Plus)
There might be firmware updates available for both the D4 &/ D1 Plus to rectify these issues, however you will need a Windows PC to install them (ASMedia doesn't offer a tool for firmware outside of Windows).
Those reviews likely tested these ASMedia based TerraMaster TDAS devices on Apple Silicon computers without any other devices connected to Thunderbolt3/4/5 or USB4; if there were issues, the (transparent) reviewers likely would mention that within their posted reviews (CNX software mentioned other issues within theirs, but they tested under Linux on a ×86-64 PC: https://www.cnx-software.com/2025/09/04 ... enclosure/).

AFS is kind of very old file system, try to format the drives into APFS and try again.

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
Dear support, my fault, I men APFS. But I think this could not be the problem. In the beginning both enclosures had unformated NVMe chips and when I connected the devices to my Systems, there was no reaction. In the Systeminformation at the Thunderboldports was standing "No device connected". So the problem are the enclosures. As I said, when I connect the enclosure to the Macbook Pro 2016 a promt is coming up because the enclosures and then also the new drives are recogniced.
So what is about the reply from crisisacting? Is there a problem with M1 and M2 and the ASMedia chipsets? I think you as a supporter and also the product manager should no this, if this is the case. Can you confirm or disperse this?
Thank you.

Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
I just have connected both divices to a MacBook Pro M3 with Sonoma from a friend and both devices were recogniced, yes! But what is the problem with the M1 and M2? Is there any chance to make the connection happen? What says the support and what says the product manager, you know your devices the best.
Re: [Help] D4 and D1 Plus divices not recogniced on two MacOS systems
M1 and M2 devices, like several other devices, have Thunderbolt 3 ports, which are typically unrelated to the chip model. Please upgrade your system and try connecting again.
