[Help] system disks and boot disk etc. question

I recently set up a new TNAS and observed the first two disks become 'system disks.'
I have some recollection there's a way to have an SSD be the system disk?? (not the included bootloader SSD that boots TOS 6.x)
Is this correct??
The two system disks, they can never be removed or changed to a different slot or swapped out for other disks??
The installation information I have didn't explain anything about all this.
Previous NAS devices I've had have not been quite like this one.
I've only installed the disks and set up the NAS, not put any data into it yet.
Do I have to leave things this way or are there any alternate ways to set up the NAS??
I asked tech support but they haven't replied...

In the new version of TOS 6, you can choose any hard drive as the system disk, including SSDs and HDDs. In Control Panel - Storage Management - Hard Drives, you can see the system disk option.

I can see the sense in having redundant system disks.
Does the system disk option allow different drives to hold system disk data??
Can all the NAS disk drives be system disks for redundancy??
Do the system disk items take up a lot of storage within the disks (how much exactly)??

You can choose different hard drives as the system disk, including HDD and SSD. The system partition usually occupies 8GB of space, which will be automatically formatted when the hard drive is inserted into the NAS, leaving four partitions.

In older versions of TOS you would see all hdd participating in operating system raid (mirror) partitions. In newer versions (Later TOS6 and 7Beta) you can choose the drives on which the OS can be installed as stated earlier. However, you can only choose a MAXIMUM of TWO. Also, since the o/s partitions will be mirrored it is not wise to mix HDD/SSD/NVME because of their different operating parameters.

If your system drive is single hdd you should be able to add ssd/nvme as a second os partition and then (electronically) "switch off" the HDD as a system drive. (From within the GUI). If you have multiple hdd as system drives, all but one may need to be "disassociated" via control panel before you see the sdd/nvme become available. {Non- system drives will retain the required o/s partitions, they will just be inactive. This is necessary to preserve the space for possible future migrations}
