[Help] Power consumption DS-320

Post by olli »

I want to use the D4-320 together with a mini PC (NUC-14 or NUC-15) as a kind of home server. However, I am a bit concerned about the power-consumption. The data sheet says it is using 9.8 watts in hibernation. What confuses me is that the 5 bay system D5-310 only uses 5.2 watts in hibernation. Why is it that the 4-bay system uses so much more power or is it an error in the specification sheet?

I am interested in the typical power consumption with 4 installed hard disks in the following situations:
  • Hard disks are still spinning but not data access takes place.
  • Hard disks are spun down.
  • The computer that is connected to the D4-320 is turned off.
In order to explain my request: The computer will not be located in my office. Therefore, I want to be able to power-off the computer and later wake it up with wake-on-lan. Therefore, I cannot manually turn of the D4-320 on and off. But I think 10 watts of power-consumption when the computer is turned of are unacceptable. Maybe someone can clarify the power consumption. Maybe another user has already measured power consumption in these situations.

Hello! We plan to conduct a re-verification test on the power consumption of the D4-320 product in hibernation mode within the next week. Once the testing is completed, we will promptly update the specifications on our official website. Based on theoretical estimates, the power consumption of this product should be consistently maintained within the range of 3-5W after the hard drives enter hibernation mode.

Hi TMjack,
this is great news! I am looking forward to the updated specifications. If the results are on the order of 3-5 watts in hibernation mode this product would be the ideal solution for my application, and I will immediately order this product. Power consumption in hibernation mode is really in important point for a small home-office, since the DAS will be running 24/7 and I am deeply concerned about the environmental effects of power consumption.

Are there any new measurement on power consumption available? The website still shows the 9.8 watts.

The D4-320 product is equipped with four WD DC HC570 22TB hard drives, consuming only 3.7W of power in sleep mode. Additionally, the official website specifications have been updated accordingly.

That sounds great: I have already ordered a DS-320 from a local retailer.
Thank you very much for the support.
