I want to use the D4-320 together with a mini PC (NUC-14 or NUC-15) as a kind of home server. However, I am a bit concerned about the power-consumption. The data sheet says it is using 9.8 watts in hibernation. What confuses me is that the 5 bay system D5-310 only uses 5.2 watts in hibernation. Why is it that the 4-bay system uses so much more power or is it an error in the specification sheet?
I am interested in the typical power consumption with 4 installed hard disks in the following situations:
- Hard disks are still spinning but not data access takes place.
- Hard disks are spun down.
- The computer that is connected to the D4-320 is turned off.
In order to explain my request: The computer will not be located in my office. Therefore, I want to be able to power-off the computer and later wake it up with wake-on-lan. Therefore, I cannot manually turn of the D4-320 on and off. But I think 10 watts of power-consumption when the computer is turned of are unacceptable. Maybe someone can clarify the power consumption. Maybe another user has already measured power consumption in these situations.
