due to a issue, i had to reinstall TOS5.1.73 on my TNAS. It's a pretty new and clean installation and i was considering to upgrade to TOS6 before doing all the additional configurations i need. I was wondering if my use case would have any benefit from this upgrade as, i think, i make a simple use of my NAS.
I only use the DLNA server and TerraPhoto apps plus SMB sharing, SSH and rsync. But i also had to make some basic changes at OS file level to allow:
- The pfSense box to update the SSL certificate via SSH with only public key auth
Configure NUT to monitor a remote UPS (connected to the pfSense box) and shutdown the NAS after 5 minutes on battery
Create firewall rules i wasn't able to create via the web interface (i'd like to be more specific but, honestly, can't remember how the GUI was preventing me to do it. I only remember i had to manually edit the config file the GUI uses, to add some of the rules i needed)
Make NAS work with specific clients from a different subnet (limited to the mentioned apps and protocols). Probably a consequence of the previous point, though
Also, just a curiosity, i think i remember that in TOS5 the whole filesystem had rwx rights for Others. Is this changed in TOS6?
thanks in advance for your time
ciao!
