D4 SSD not recognized with four SSD - start loop
Posted: 27 Sep 2025, 21:23
Hello,
I am facing a strange problem with my D4 SSD. I am using it with KC3000 SSD from Kingston.
I was able to use the D4 SSD as expected with one, two, three or four SSD using Windows and Linux, using USB 4 or lower. Everything was fine when I use RAID 0 (with 2, 3 or 4 disks) and even RAID 5 with three SSDs (setup using Linux).
My problem is when I am using it with four SSD and RAID 6. After setting up the RAID, the disks somehow disappear/are no longer usable. If I reboot the computer, the disks will not appear (either on Windows or Linux). The D4 SSD is not detected at all. The fans from the D4 SSD starts and then stops and then again they starts and stops (sounding like the D4 SSD loop starts). This will also happen on Windows and even with a different computer.
If I remove one disk, the D4 SSD will be detected as expected. If I put back the disk, it will fail to start again. All the disks are still working as expected.
At some point, I could make the D4 SSD work again with four disks. And then, I retry the RAID 6 strategy and the D4 SSD failed again after syncing the disks.
Here the kernel log of the D4 SSD when it fails to start propoerly:
