[Help] TRAID5, and Quota

Post by aztec1430 »

Hi Guys,
Just helping a client out - he's got a F4-212 - 4 bays - I'm new to TerraMaster gear...

He's currently got:

1 x 2Tb
1 x 4Tb
1 x 8Tb
1 x 8Tb

What should he have as total space available? 14Tb?
The unit is set for TRAID5?

For some reason the unit is showing 9.7Tb total space... I can't seem to expand it...

Cheers,
Richard

(and yes, I've told him he needs 2 more 8Tb as soon as possible)

Hello, if the storage pool uses the default TRAID, the total available space is 14TB.
You can choose other array types when creating the storage pool.
You need to check the configuration of the storage pool and volumes first to ensure all disks have been added.

Thanks CursaYang...
Here's how the Storage Pool is set out:

It says TRAID - but capacity of 2 x 8Tb, 1 x 4Tb and 1 x 2Tb, seems to only have 9.7Tb as a storage pool...

Very odd...

Cheers,
Richard

It seems that the 4TB hard drive capacity hasn't been applied. Currently, the 10TB storage pool is likely a combination of two 8TB drives and one 2TB drive.
You can first back up your data, delete the current volume and storage pool, and then rebuild it.
By the way, the hard drives you have are SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) drives, which are not suitable for use in a RAID 5 array. You can use RAID 1 or replace them with other CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording) drives.

So storage pool and volume has been wiped, and a brand new one configured...

I'm now seeing this:
Image

The drives are empty, yet it's taken 5 hours to get to 50%, and the Quota is still less that 14Tb...

12.7Tb? Have I lost 2Tb somewhere?

Any ideas?

After rebuilding the storage pool, the array will resynchronize, so please be patient and wait for the synchronization to complete.
Hard disk manufacturers usually use decimal notation for capacity, while operating systems typically calculate capacity using binary. Therefore, the actual usable space will be slightly less than the disk's nominal capacity. The actual usable space of a 14TB hard disk is approximately 12.7TB.
