[Help] Centralised SMB backup user account?

Post by tekyinblack »

I'm a new Terramaster user, installed our F8 SSD just a few weeks ago, but in trying to get reliable incremental backups from a Windows 2019 server, I'm not succeeding. After a reboot, I can get a backup of all the directories I want, but after a bit of usage, backups fail, frequently after only one error is logged. I'm working through the errors but not sure if there is a root cause.
I started getting signing errors on a few files, not all, and having disabled signing for all, then got sharing errors. The Centralized backup service is running under the default local account, I tried changing this to a backup account unsuccessfully, but I'm wondering if this is where I need to be looking to get my backups working, I can't see anywhere else to change the backup to get authorisation to backup the files.
I'm running another file backup product and it can access all files ok, but having this running or not does not affect the results of the centralized backup.
My next move is to run a reboot overnight just before the backup runs but I'd prefer not to.
I'd like the backup to be a bit more tolerant of errors, so that multiple errors can be encountered before failure, is there anywhere to change this?

We sincerely apologize for the unsatisfactory experience you've encountered.

May I ask whether the current backup task result is shown as “Partially Successful”?

Based on your description, our preliminary assessment is that a few files may have failed to back up due to specific reasons, while the rest were successfully completed.

To accurately identify the issue, we kindly ask for your assistance in providing the following information:
Please check the log page, locate the failed entries corresponding to the backup task in question, and share relevant screenshots.

Preferably, you can export the complete backup log file and send it to our technical support email: support(at)terra-master.com
The full log will help us comprehensively analyze any anomalies throughout the backup process.
(Please include a reference or link to this support thread in your email body.)

Regarding your concern about running two backup tools simultaneously:
In theory, multiple backup tools should not interfere with each other. However, conflicts may still arise due to shared resource competition (such as I/O usage, file locks, or permission conflicts).
Therefore, we cannot fully rule out potential interference in such scenarios.
For more accurate troubleshooting, we recommend running only one backup task at a time during this investigation.

Hi, I'm sending the logs now.
The two backups are not running concurrently but at separate times.
The backup shows (red) failure not (orange)partial failure
Looking at the file system on the F8, the rest of the files expected to be backed up haven't been.
I've sent two sets of log files, one from a failed backup dated 29th, and the other from a successful backup from this morning. The successful backup was taken after a reboot of the server.
I've sent a picture from the logs showing multiple file backup failures followed by a backup failure message.

Best regards
