I am getting very frustrated with my Terramaster F4-212 NAS.
It's a brand new unit with three brand new Amazon-recommended Ironwolf NAS HDs in it - 8TB + 8TB in RAID1 (Volume 2), plus a 4TB HD standalone (Volume 1). Twice in less than two weeks I have had an alarm and message re- Volume 2 "The RAID in storage pool 1 has been degraded!". Gap between the first alarm and today was about 5 days. Again all HDs are showing as "Good". Again I have powered down the unit, pulled out and reseated the HDs, and now it is rebuilding the volume again. About 30mins in, 3.78% done. So that's another 10hrs approx. wait while it chugs.
Current TOS version is latest, 5.1.73. BIOS/initBoot version is 324. Is there anything else I should check?
If this happens again I will be returning the unit and would not risk my data in another.

Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
Hi, sorry for that, probably your HDD is not healthy enough.
Please generate and download the log report package in TOS > Technical Support > Report Issues, and then send it to support at terra-master.com for inspection with cloud drive sharing link. (WeTransfer, Onedrive, Apple, GoogleDrive...)
This may enable us to determine the problem more accurately and quickly

Thank you for mega speedy reply, appreciated
What do you mean by "probably your HDD is not healthy enough" - all are brand new and reporting as Good, but you think one might be faulty?
I will generate and download a log report now. Thanks again.

Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
Update: I used https://wetransfer.com/ to send the 20MB System Report Zip file to your email address. Kindly confirm safe receipt.
I will investigate HD checking software next.
Thank you.

Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
Please excuse ignorance. That topic (re- HD checking) is a list of seven software packages, none of which mention checking HDs in a NAS. I installed the first one, Disk Genius, but do not see an option to scan remote HDs. Are you saying I need to install HD check software on my NAS? If yes please specify a package to install. If no please specify software I can run on my laptop and tell it to scan the HDs in my NAS. Thank you.
Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
Sorry, these software can only check the hard drives connected to the computer and cannot directly check the hard drives on the NAS. We will review your system report and reply.NinjaDan wrote: ↑25 Jun 2025, 18:45 Please excuse ignorance. Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
Many thanks. FYI the Volume is still rebuilding, @51.82% presently after 6.5hrs. Last time this happened the Volume went back to "Normal" after rebuild, and it stayed Normal for 5 days before the alarm went off again this AM. (Just repeating this because I don't know how much info is included in the System Report I generated/sent.) Cheers.
Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
Update: Volume completed rebuild in a shade under 12 hours and now states "Normal". Please let me know what you glean from the System Report I sent. To be frank given this was the second "RAID is Degraded" alarm in less than 2wks of ownership/light use, I have little faith in the unit.
Re: [Help] "RAID is degraded" message twice in two weeks
The NAS worked as expected yesterday.
But first thing this AM, when I went to wake it from overnight "sleep", the alarm immediately started beeping and again "The RAID in storage pool 1 has been degraded!"
Am generating a System Report now and will upload/email via WeTransfer... Done.
I have zero faith in this unit. Unless you can provide explicit evidence from the SR that I have an intermittently faulty HD (NB all are brand new Ironwolf NAS drives and showing as "Good" in Control Panel / Hard Drive) I will be returning it.
