[Help] Windows 11 vm crashes whole NAS

Post by fordrwd4ever »

Hi, i have a F4-424 with a ssd for the programs and 4 x Enterprise class hdd`s in traid for data

Since the last TOS 6.0.694 , VirtualBox is misbehaving on Windows 11 VM`s
Installation works, but after a short time the VM freezes and the whole NAS is not accessible anymore.
I need to unplug the power, as even the power button doesn`t react anymore.
If i plug in a tv on the HDMI , i get a screen with all kinds of errors and a hard lockup

Even tried reinstalling TOS6 on the traid array (and removing the ssd) but this doesn`t make any difference.
Windows 7 and Windows 10 VMs do work fine.

It shouldn`t be possible for a VM to crash the whole system , because it should be isolated from the host os.

I don`t know if this is recorded in the /var/log/messages file for analysis?

Thank you for your feedback. When the virtual machine crashes, you can observe the system resource usage, especially the memory usage. How much memory is allocated to the virtual machine and how much memory is actually occupied.

Hey, I ran into something super similar on my F4-424 after the same TOS 6.0.694 update—Windows 11 VMs would freeze and take the whole NAS with them, needing a hard reset. It felt like VirtualBox lost proper isolation, which shouldn't happen; I ended up checking /var/log/messages and did find kernel panic entries tied to the VM process.
