Backup question

Post by manya2000 »

I'm setting up my Terramaster F2-424 to securely store a large collection of family photos, videos, and PDFs for my children. My current hardware includes:

Terramaster F2-424:
2 x 6TB WD Red Plus (CMR) HDDs (TRAID)
2 x 2TB SSDs
32GB RAM
I currently use both Immich and PhotoPrism in Docker containers for photo management and enjoy both applications. All my photos and videos are stored on one of the 2TB SSDs.

My proposed workflow is:

Have both Immich and PhotoPrism point to the same folder on the SSD.
Perform a nightly duplicate (sync) of this SSD folder to one of the 6TB WD Red Plus HDDs.
For an added layer of protection, I'm considering purchasing a Terramaster D2-320 and two additional 6TB WD Red Plus HDDs to create an off-device backup.

My questions are:

What is the best backup program to use for keeping all folders in sync between my F2-424 and the D2-320? I need a solution that ensures all folders are regularly synchronized.
If the D2-320 is solely for backups, are WD Red Plus (CMR) drives necessary, or can I opt for a more cost-effective drive solution? I am 74 years old so my budget is a bit small.

Thanks,
Mario

Hello, you can use our USB Copy application to regularly back up the SSD to a folder on the DAS. As for whether the D2-320 requires the use of WD Red Plus, it depends on your budget. If you also use cloud storage services like Google Drive, you can back up the files from the SSD to the cloud using our Cloudsync application. Hope this helps!
