D5 and NVMe

Post by edgley »

Its time to replace the good old physical hard drives with something faster.

I was going to get used 5x4TB SSD and use RAID 0.
However, after looking at prices, new / old etc, the best value by far are new 4TB NVMe for £180.

I know the D5 can't utilise that speed.
However, I bet my next RAID can.

Its a shame, given what used prices should be I was expecting 4TB SSD to be £100 for one and as low as £80 for 5.

Sure, I know that what I am doing is not official supported.
Its your "fault" for building a product to such a high standard it turns out its not that fussy over disks :)

Anyways, my point was to not suggest supporting my way of doing it.
It was more about my surprise at the cost of 4TB SSD.

Given that I can future proof with SSD replacement tech cheaper that SSD that seems to be a no brainer.
