[Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
Hi, still a bit new to tnas so this might be a simple question:
I was going through photos and deleting duplicates for a non-shared folder and deleting a few files incorrectly. This is a folder in my home folder and I did not share /homes, so no there is no recycle bin. I do have snapshots turned on for the volume and I tried to restore the snapshot from the previous hour, but I do not see the deleted files come back. In fact it doesn't seem like it did anything because it was completed so quickly.
Couple of questions:
1. What is the best way to get my files back?
2. How do you enable recycling bin for a non-shared folder?
3. Based on what I've read, file system snapshots can allow you to restore individual files, how do I do that in TOS6?
I'm on F4-423 TOS 6
Thanks

Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
In response to your inquiries, we provide the following guidance:
1.File Recovery from Snapshots
To restore a deleted file, navigate to Backups > File System Snapshots > Backup Inventory and verify if a snapshot containing the file state from one hour ago exists. If available, initiate the recovery process using the File System Snapshot Restore feature.
2.Non-Shared Folder Recycle Bin Limitation
The Recycle Bin functionality is currently unavailable for non-shared folders. We have documented this feature request and will escalate it to our product development team for prioritization.
3.Selective File Recovery via Snapshot
For individual file recovery from shared folders, we recommend using the Snapshot Application to create a point-in-time copy. The resulting snapshot files can be accessed and restored through your File Management interface."

Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
Hi,
I am doing #1, as I have hourly snapshots on the volume. But I do not see the files restored, even when I try snapshots from a few hours ago.
Thanks

Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
If anyone was wondering, I found the snapshot directory for tos6 here
and created a symlink in my home directory so I can use file explorer to navigate it. Then I restored an individual folder by copying it back to the current folder. The folder name after subvols might be different for your machine.
Code: Select all
/var/subvols/8vEbTxkKvwa/@syssnapshot/default Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
BTW the snapshot application can only create one time snapshots for shared folders, so I cannot use it. If you want us to use the snapshot app to manage snapshots, then it has to be able to snapshot everything and allow us to schedule snapshot tasks just like Backup.
Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
You can find the File System Snapshot feature at TOS Desktop>Backup.

Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
Could you please provide screenshots of the snapshots and backups so we can check if the settings are correct?

Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
Hello! If you couldn’t find the accidentally deleted file after restoration, it might have been deleted before the snapshot was taken. We recommend enabling the snapshot browsing feature for the shared folder’s snapshot task. Once enabled, you can directly view historical snapshots in the @snapshot directory under File Management and download the needed files without restoring them.
Hope this helps resolve your issue!
Re: [Help] Snapshot Restore Doesnt Seem to do anything
Hi,
The TOS Backup application's snapshot saving works and I can manually browse to the snapshot and copy individual files back.
The problem is in the restore feature. It didn't seem to do anything when I choose ethe snapshot and click on restore. The deleted files were still gone, but I was able to find them manually in the same snapshot.
