Method for Calculating Hyper Cache Capacity Configuration in TOS

Post by TMzethar »

Applicable Versions:
TOS 5, TOS 6.0.xxx~6.0.673

Applicable Models:
All x86-series models

Formula and Explanation for Calculating Maximum Cache Capacity:

1. Calculation Formula:
Maximum cache capacity allowed by system memory = (Total system memory {GB} x 0.6 - Used system memory {GB}) * 1024 / 5.5

2. Formula Explanation:
1) "Total system memory {GB}" refers to the total amount of RAM installed in your device, measured in GB. For example, your device may have 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of RAM.
2) "Used system memory {GB}" is the amount of RAM currently being used by the system and running applications, also measured in GB. This value can be viewed under Control Panel > General Settings > System Information > Overview.
3) "x 0.6" represents the recommended proportion of system memory allocated for cache creation. This ratio ensures a balance between system performance and cache creation needs.
4) "x 1024" converts the value from GB to MB, as 1GB = 1024MB in computer storage calculations. This ensures consistency in the final result's unit.
5) "/ 5.5" is an adjustment factor derived from the system's comprehensive optimization of cache performance and resource utilization. It is used to further refine the calculation of the maximum cache capacity allowed by system memory.

Note: If the calculation result is 0 or a negative number, it indicates that the remaining available memory is insufficient to support cache creation, and the cache creation operation cannot be performed.

3. Example Calculation:
Assume your device has a total system memory of 16GB, and the system monitoring tool shows that 6GB of memory is currently in use.

First, calculate the value inside the parentheses:
(16 x 0.6 - 6) = 9.6 - 6 = 3.6GB

Next, perform the unit conversion and division:
3.6 GB x 1024/5.5 ≈ 665.45GB

4. Determining Hyper Cache Capacity:
After obtaining the maximum cache capacity allowed by system memory, you need to consider the volume capacity and SSD cache disk capacity. The smallest value among these three will be the final capacity for creating the Hyper Cache.
