Can't Claim Server

Post by epelix »

Hello all,

Refs A. viewtopic.php?p=35964&hilit=claim#p35964
B. https://github.com/ukdtom/ClaimIt?tab=readme-ov-file
C. https://www.plexopedia.com/plex-media-s ... ermanually

TLDR: I am pulling my hair out because I cannot claim my Plex server running on my F4 423 NAS.

Initial Symptom: I installed Plex from the App store. When I press "Claim Server", it doesn't do anything. Below it, it says "Version 1.41.3.9292. ! Update available. Please install manually".

Steps Taken:
Action 1: I find ref A, an article that exactly shows my symptoms. I try opening the NAS Plex server web page in incognito mode on Google Chrome. It is still doing the the same thing...

Action 2: I install the newest Plex Server software manually using the tpk file from the Plex official website. I go to the "Claim Server" page, and click "Claim Server". It doesn't do anything. Below it, it says "Version 1.41.3.9314 ! Update available. Please install manually". I'm frustrated because I literally just installed the newest version and it even displays that it's the newest version -_-

Action 3: I try using the ClaimIt script from Ref B. I SSH into the NAS and try running the script and I get the output: "We failed to get the Plex Media Server ID. Please check server is up and running, as well as the IP address entered."

Action 4: I decide to claim the plex server manually following the instructions in Ref C, using SSH into the NAS. I receive the xml output from the claim command with the authentication code that states claiming is successful. I enter the authentication code and other required parameters into the Preferences.xml file in the NAS's plex folder.
I go back to my plex server web page, go to Settings->Authorized Devices, and it shows this gray icon which I added. But it doesn't contain any metadata unlike the other authorized devices.

Furthermore, the NAS doesn't show up at all on the left hand side pane nor in the settings...

I manually try to set up my NAS by going to the link http://192.168.1.XXX:32400/web/index.ht ... machine_ID[/i] but it shows this page that says either I am not authorized to access this server or that this server hasn't been claimed... Screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/HPYUpeQ

I want to blow my brains out because in the "Authorized Devices" page, it literally shows that the server has been claimed, and the xml output from the manual claim command states the claiming has been successful.

I tried removing the Authentication Token from the Preferences.xml and restart Plex. Lo and behold, the NAS shows up on Plex again! However, it is back to square 1 because it says to claim it, and the claim server button does not work...

Inquiry: Anyone have any advice what else I should try?

Hello all,
I was able to claim my server after a couple days.

I left my settings the same after following my Action 4 or Ref C ie. manually claiming the server via SSH into the NAS. Immediately after doing so, in the "Authorized Devices", it showed my NAS but it was grayed out and there was no metadata displayed associated to the Plex server running on my NAS.

Couple days later, I checked the "Authorized Devices" page again, and now originally gray NAS Plex server changed to the coloured Plex logo and the meta data appeared underneath it. I went to the "Claim Server" page and the version number was also changed to the correct version of Plex that I manually installed in my Action 2. And I was able to claim the server.

My hypothesis is that manually claiming the server works, but it takes some time for some reason.

I hope this helps.
