Setting up new F4-423 without drives?

Post by lcoil79 »

I just received my new F4-423 and am waiting for my 18TB drive to arrive early next week. Is there anythign I can do for setup and initialization now, or do I just need to wait til I have the drive and loaded? Starting out small for local fileshare and camera storage, will be expanding later to TRAID for redundancy.

Given that you have nvme capabilty, have you considered 1 or 2 nvme (don't have to be huge, I use 500Gb) in Traid for the o/s (TOS) (set up as Storage Pool 1/Volume1. This would include a '/public' folder if you wish to use that and /homes, likewise. You can install your apps on Volume 1 as well which keeps a lot of activity on the nvme drives. Then your HDD can be setup as Storage Pool2/Volume2 for your data. The advantage is that it allows more effective 'sleep' possibilities for your HDD (if important to you) with a small downside of slight delay when starting to read data. Otherwise O/S will install on your HDD.
F5-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid
