Volume 2 shared folder recovery problem after TOS re-install

Post by RSB123 »

Hi there -

Really hope you can help. I now have a major problem. I have 2 drives installed in my brand new F2-421. After 1 week of finally getting the files setup how I wanted and transferring all my data I encountered an issue and needed to re-install TOS to fix it.

My Setup is as follows - F2-421 - with 2 drives. Volume 1 is the main drive, volume 2 I use as a file storage and as an incremental backup for Volume 1.

So following the advice on this forum on trying to resolve a network related error, see link below, I followed the instructions precisely to re-install TOS. Because I was having an error when copying files.

Then after re-install of TOS, according to the instructions below, I tried to restore the shared folders (TOS Control Panel – Privileges – Shared Folder – Advanced – Restore to). First I tried restore to Volume 1. Which put back the public folder and all the files within - great. Then I tried the same process to restore Volume 2. This time it screwed up the lot and Volume 1 went missing, and didn't restore Volume 2 at all. Argghh. I tried to run the process again to restore the shared folders for Volume 1 and thankfully at least Volume 1 has come back. But I just can' t get volume 2 back.

So I have 2 problems / questions:

1) How do I recover the shared folders on Volume 2? Because when I try it, it doesn't work.
2) Will this happen everytime I get an update for TOS? Am I going to go through the same thing of lost data every time I have to re-install TOS?

If so, this nas will be returned to where I bought it as unfit for purpose.
