F5-221 and I do not remember the TOS version when it happen. MIGHT have been 4 but I am not sure. Sorry I MEANT to say this happened about 2-3 years ago. I have since plugged that external into a Windows computer as I don't trust this to not happen again.

I am hoping to plug it back into the NAS for backups and eliminate the Windows computer but I have concerns with TOS breaking again. I have about 15 dockers that I would not want to lose.

It is recommended that you format the hard drive and reinstall the TOS5.1.145 system. For specific operations, please refer to this link:

The TOS system will generally not damage the data when plugged into an external USB, but it is recommended that you make other backups of the data.

Sorry that was not my issue. My issue was that I had to reinstall TOS because the external was plugged in. Nothing to do with losing the data on the external.

it is recommended to update your TOS, your current version is way out of date.

What are you talking about? You are not making sense. My TOS is as up to date as it can be.

CURRENTLY 5.1.103-00409
HOWEVER this happened about 2 years ago, I THINK I was on 4 something. But since then I have not plugged in an external. I am looking to see if this was a one time thing and it's safe to leave it plugged i or if this was a known bug that is now fixed. Again, I did have a friend have the same thing happen to him.
