Reinstalling TOS on F4-220

I have an F4-220 that has been turned off for a long time because I lost access to the root password.
AFAIK, I need to reinstall the the software from scratch to regain access.
I'd like to keep the data stored on it, but that's not the top priority.
Where do I get the most current version of TOS that will rn on it and how do I install it?

(RN it's showing up on my network as 192.168.0.8 which is inaccessible because my newer network/router is on 10.0.0.1.)

I do not want to access the NAS directly from the Internet, but are there any major security problems with the latest version of TOS that is compatiblle wth this model?

Are there any other issues I need to be aware of?

Thanks.

Have you changed the router network?
1. You can edit the IP through tnas pc, enter the administrator password, and obtain a new network IP
2. If you forget the administrator password and need to reinstall the system, you need to unplug all hard disks, enter the installation process from the USB boot disk, and re-obtain the network IP (Note: the hard disk is inserted in the original position during installation)

Thanks, @TMcola!

Where do I get the USB boot disk image

and exactly how do I make bootable USB drive that the TNAS will like?

I'm not sure what the latest version my TNAS will run is. I see that it won't run version 6.

I use Linux on my notebook computer. I'm familiar with making bootable USB drives, but I'm not sure if the drive needs a particular partition type etc.

Sorry, this may be a bad new for you. Your device model does not currently support the new TOS 6 system. We strongly recommend that you purchase a new storage device as soon as possible and transfer or back up your data. If you need to migrate your hard drive to a new TerraMaster device, please contact our customer service for help.

In this circumstance would it not be possible to use an installation package for TOS5.0.176 to regain access? This would be the latest update to the 220 suitable for the original TOS4 os would it not?

@josephj11
You should not need a new USB initboot. The original usb device should be sufficient. (Unless, of course, you have removed it for some reason and it is damaged.)

What original device? Is it inside the F4-220? On the outside there's a USB socket, bu there never was a flash drive that I saw. TOS was preinstalled and I just had to configure it and add the drives. It didn't come with any hard drives. I added them.

I printed the instructions at https://www.terra-master.com/us/hellotos5

and downloaded TOS_X642.0_5.0.176_00227_2210111430.ins

I have two problems.
I can't access TOS because the TNAS is on the wrong subnet and I don't know how to remap it yet
I don't have the admin password for telnet on the NAS , etc. to work.
I need to do something like factory reset the TNAS so I can regain access to it and update it.
How do I do that?

There is a USB stick inside the unit that contains the bootloader.

You can refer to method B in this link to reinstall the system: viewtopic.php?t=423
Pay attention to see if you can hear three beeps about 1 to 2 minutes after booting up. If not, you can refer to this link to re-flash a new USB initboot: viewtopic.php?t=6433

Thanks! That was a piece I didn't know.

Just to clarify
When it says:
WARNING!
Since the TOS 5.1 system requires more space, if your initial system was TOS 4.x, and the available storage space of your system partition is less than 200MB, please do not update to TOS 5.1.

It doesn't care how big the partition is - only that it has at least 200MB that is free and unused in the parition.

If it's not that big, do I want 4.2.44 or 5.0.176?

Thanks.
