Android TNAS Mobile - backup path

Post by rlu »

Hi there,
My android was backing up to the NAS using TNAS Mobile to a directory: MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google

that last folder name was not a name I made up, it is the default.

I started noticing recently that files were backed up to a sub folder that was incorrect:
MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\Album backup_myname_Google\

I moved the few photos that were there, back to the original camera location and fixed the phone backup location setup in TNAS Mobile. It has now made a duplicate folder name in the same directory. This should not be possible with a file system. It will not save the existing directory structure, it save to a new one that it creates.
This is what my duplicate directories now look like. New photos are now being saved to the newest location. I cannot save to the prior location any longer.
\MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\
\MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\

I have updated to TNAS Mobile V3.3.038 and cleared local temporary files and logged off TNAS Mobile and logged back in. Still creates a new folder instead of using the existing.

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, you need to select the following path: \MyDirectory\AndroidBackups.

Yes, it is setup to backup path \MyDirectory\AndroidBackups

It will not save the new photos to existing folders. Instead, it is creating a duplicate folder and saving there:

EXISTING FOLDERS:
MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\Camera
MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\Snapshots
DUPLICATE FOLDER CREATED
MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\Camera

Do you mean there are two 'Camera' folders in the MyDirectory\AndroidBackups\Album backup_myname_Google\ directory? May I ask what version of TOS you have?

I am experiencing an issue with the Android TNAS mobile backup path. When selecting a backup path, if the chosen path is a subdirectory, it becomes impossible to navigate back to the root directory to select a different subdirectory. Pressing the back button or the "one level above" button exits the page entirely.

Additionally, there is another concern regarding the "backup to" directory behavior. Instead of copying the source directories as-is, the system creates additional subdirectories, which is unexpected and can lead to confusion. Users typically anticipate that files will be copied directly into the specified directory without the creation of extra subfolders.

This issue is not isolated to my Samsung S22; I have also observed the same behavior on my spouse's Samsung S33. Therefore, it seems to be a broader issue rather than one specific to a particular device.

I kindly request that this issue be addressed. Thank you.

HI !
Thank you for contacting the TerraMaster team!

Can you please provide us with the installed version of TNAS.Mobile?
Regarding your mention of not being able to return to the root directory to select a different subdirectory, you can click the arrow button in the upper left corner to return to the previous directory and select the directory.
As for your concern about the behavior of the “Backup to” directory, please note that “Backup to” will create a new backup folder in the selected backup path and the photos will be backed up in this folder instead of directly to the selected folder.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

I am experiencing the same thing on iOS version 3.3.038.

The first backup was back in July this year.
On my second backup today, it first created a new subfolder with the same name in the existing folder. While running the backup, if I leave the phone on the backup screen without touching it, it times out the TNAS access after, effectively cancelling the backup. Maybe there is a setting for it. I will check it out later today.

Then, after it loaded all the pictures from today to the last backup date in July, it compared the remaining pictures to ensure nothing was duplicated. It then finished the backup, leaving some videos not backed up. I then went to TOS to move all the photos from the new folder to the old folder. You can tell the difference by the create date in TOS folder explorer. After I moved everything from the new folder to the old folder and deleted the old folder, everything looked like it was ok. I think the mobile app needs to do that as well: move everything to the new folder, then delete the old folder.

I did notice that the new folder has "B" for the word "Backup" capitalized instead of the small letter for the folder created back in July. I renamed the folder to match that, and I am going to try to back it up again tomorrow to see if it can get it correct or at least back up the videos I took today.

In TNAS mobile v3.3, the naming convention for folders has been standardized, with the 'b' in 'backup' being changed to 'B'.

What's the issue with it doing backup on the backup screen, if I don't touch anything, it times out my connection after maybe 5-10 minutes. I couldn't find a setting to change this. I feel that if the connection is there but being inactive, it times out the connection, but I don't see a setting for this.

What version of the TOS system have you installed? When using TNAS mobile, please go to the "My" page and check your network status via the "Connection Method" section. TRT connections can be affected by the server, resulting in unstable network connections in some cases; whereas "Local Connection" and "TPT Connection" are relatively more stable. For TPT Connection, you need to upgrade your TOS system to version 6.0.500 or above.
