TRAID Synchronizing After Every Shutdown

Post by DizConnected »

I have a 4 disk, 14TBx4 WD Hard Drives in TRAID, that Re-Synchronize after ever Shutdown/Startup. I have a TerraMaster F4-423 on TOS 6.0.555, and I never had an issue with Sync on TOS 5, or even TOS 6 Beta, but it seems like the last few versions of TOS 6 I have been having to re-sync after every shutdown. I could leave it on all the time but the NAS is in my bedroom and the HD's are always doing some activity, making noise so I like to create a schedule for the NAS to shutdown at 10PM and wake up at 6AM. but I'm afraid all this re-syncing is going to cause unnecessary wear on my hard drives.

This phenomenon seems unrelated to TOS 6. Based on our inference, it appears that one of the hard disks in your array was not properly mounted when the TNAS was restarted, causing your array to enter a degraded state. After the TNAS had been restarted for some time, this hard disk was mounted again, triggering array resynchronization. Please check the health of all your disks and use the benchmark tool within TOS to test if the disk performance is normal.

It has said Sync finished a number of times, but still when I shutdown it resynchronizes on the next startup. When I check the Disk status they are all green and I see no issues under SMART. I think I might just backup the data and recreate the TRAID to see if that will fix the issue.

I don't think this issue is related to TOS 6 or TRAID. I believe it's a hardware problem. Sluggish response from individual hard drives or unstable SATA connections can also cause this issue.

I am experiencing similar issues with my F4-424 Pro. Every time I power on or restart the NAS, the TRaid volume (2x 4TB Seagate IronWolf Pro NAS) appears to resynchronize.
The hard drives then run intensively for about 90 minutes. In the control panel, everything is shown as green, with no visible issues.

I have observed the shutdown process:
When the system initiates a restart or shutdown, both hard drives wake up from sleep mode, and some read and write operations seem to take place. Then, suddenly, the NAS powers off in the middle of these operations—while the HDD activity LEDs are still blinking.

I suspect that the shutdown process is faulty.
Could you please verify this?

TOS 6.0.610-00165
NVMe Hyper-Cache, Read-Write mode
BTRFS
2x 4TB Seagate Iron Wolf Pro NAS, TRaid

Should I open a separate support ticket for this issue?

There is not enough information known to determine the cause of the problem.
Please generate and download the log report package in TOS > Technical Support > Report Issues, and then send it to support(at)terra-master.com for inspection.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. Every time I restart the system there's consistent drive activity afterwards for a long period of time.
All Pool/Storage related settings and views show no sign of synchronization. Everything is fine, just the drives are going ham.

Will report issue through TOS.

Edit: interestingly, I also have 2x Seagate Ironwolf Pro 4TB hard drives installed,

Processes that cause Read/Write activity are kworker/3:2 kcopyd for read and TOSDaemon for write.

I can confirm I have same issue on tos6, which hasn't been present in tos5
But also I use nvme read write cache and do use native schedule to trigger shutdown/wake up
Hard drives and nvme drives all show no sign of errors
Long smart test don't show errors
So seems like there is something related maybe to switch of base distro under tos6?
