Just want to ensure compatability before purchase

Post by andyxoxo4 »

Hi guys, got the D6-320 in my Amazon cart. Was ready to order until I saw your compatability list. I have a bunch of WD external MyBooks that I would like to take apart and use the drives in a DAS. So are you saying I can't do this with your D6-320 or D4-320? If no that I can't do this, is this problem only with your NAS devices? If yes, why?

A sampling of my MyBook drives are :
WD140EDGZ-11B2DA2 14TB
WD WD140EDGZ-11B1PA0 14TB
WD40EMRX-82UZ0N0 4TB

Thanks guys :-)

Can't find edit button. Last line should read If no that I can't do this, is this problem only with your DAS devices?

Hello, thank you for contacting TerraMaster!

Regarding the compatibility issue you mentioned, please refer to our official compatibility list at https://www.terra-master.com/global/compatibility/. If the specific model you are interested in is not listed, it indicates that its compatibility with our products is unknown and has not been tested or verified.

Furthermore, since the D6-320 or D4-320 are DAS devices, they do not have an edit button. If you are using them for the first time, you will need to follow the installation guide on our website, which can be found at:
https://support.terra-master.com/quickg ... uct=D6-320
https://support.terra-master.com/quickg ... uct=D4-320

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

To get back to your original question ....... and assuming you want to retain the data on the MyBooks drives .....
The matter of fitting old data HDD into new Das will (probably) depend on how the WD drives were formatted, the file system in use, the bock size and whether the host device that Das is connected to can accommodate all the variable attributes. My brief dive into this netherworld tells me different MyBooks use different file systems to start with.

Otherwise, the drives may work but you will need to clean them of old formatting (and data) and start fresh. In which case, I would probably secure erase the drives and just try them in the Das.
