admin changed from TOS5>TOS6. Now nothing works.

In updating from TOS5 to TOS6 I think I made a big booboo.
When I initially installed TOS5 I used firstnamelastname which I ended up hating. So when prompted to set a new user/pass on boot up to TOS6, I changed my admin username to firstname. CHAOS.
Plex didn't see folders, ttyd didn't have admin, transmission dead.
I have TOS installed on Volume1 (NVME) and all my files on Volume2 (HDD). I tried uninstalling the apps (ticking remove all config files) and reinstalling, no luck. I reset system to defaults and still no working when reinstalling the apps.
I don't mind of Volume1 is redone but I cannot afford to lose Volume2 (old NAS has some failing drives)
What would be the best way to either
a) change the username used by the system as admin for current and reinstalled apps
b) reset the system including old configs
c) keep Volume2 unscathed
