Hi Guys,
I am trying to use my TNAS F4-424 to do a secure erase on some old disks. I have a disk with no partitions that I tried to erase and the process starts ands then 5 secs later it says "Failed to do secure erase on disk HDD3.
I have also tried to adding the disk to it's own storage pool but it would run until I deleted the pool. Then the same issue.
I have a bunch of old disks from work that I want to erase and the NAS would be a great tool to use for this purpose.
Can anyone suggest what is going on or if there are any logs that I could look at to see what is happening?
NOTE: I am running TOS 5.1.145-00320
Failed to do secure erase on disk
Re: Failed to do secure erase on disk
Is this the only disc with problems?
You can log into a terminal and check the relevant kernel logs with the dmesg command. It may be able to log relevant exceptions.

Re: Failed to do secure erase on disk
For some reasons, your drive may be at "frozen" status, remove and insert the drive, and try again.

Re: Failed to do secure erase on disk
I checked and it wasn't frozen. I managed to find a url that showed me how to use hdparm to perform the secure erase from the terminal. FYI https://grok.lsu.edu/article.aspx?articleid=16716
