Connecting to a PC and Mac at same time

Am I trying to do the impossible?

Just purchased the F4-424 Max because it has two 10Gb ports. Port one is connected to my PC and works fine. The idea was to connect port two to my Mac. The Mac does not see the shares or let me log in.

Is this configuration scenario even possible?

recommend you try connecting Port 2 to a PC to see if it works normally. Is it a direct connection between the two computers? You can place the TNAS under the router and then have both computers access it via IP.

No router involved. Router does not have 10Gb ports. Direct 10Gb connection between both computers. The Mac is the Mac Studio, which has a 10Gb port. The PC is a laptop with a 10Gb port. All I need to know is whether this will work. My testing indicates that it does not, in which case the device is being returned.

The NAS has now been factory reset - I am on the verge of giving up, after many hours of trying.

Take your time - or have you lost interest?

You would have to manually assign ip addresses to each of the nas ports you wish to use - using private network addresses (198.162.xxx.yyy) that are on separate network segments and not the same as your LAN. Each of the MAC and the Laptop will need to have manually assigned IP addresses that are compatible with the ports to which each is attached.

If you have a 3rd ethernet port it can be set to DHCP and attached to the router for access from the LAN. The point is that the nas does not have routing support, so neither the MAC or the laptop would be able to communicate with each other or the internet.

Alternatively you might get a network switch that has at least 3 (or 4) 10Gbe + 1 or more 1 Gbe ports and connect it to the router via a standard 1Gbe cable and the MAC + Laptop + NAS connected to the relevant ports on the switch. Then everything would be able to communicate with each other. An option with 4x10Gbe ports is that bonding of the 2 NAS ports might be possible. Or, get a better router that allows the same thing.

But then, not many people really need 10GBe connections so unusual request. 2.5Gbe connections would be more cost effective I think.
