D4-320 noise

Post by devnull621 »

Is there a way to lower the noise coming from the D4-320? The bays with no drives will rattle and produce alot of noise. For now, I have just removed the empty bays. But this exposes the internal circuitry and doesn't look very nice.

Since the hard disk tray without drive installation is relatively lightweight, when other hard disks rotate, it will cause this empty tray to vibrate and make noise. We will improve this problem later. As a temporary solution, you can use some items to block the gap.

Experiment with some self adhesive 'hook&loop' tape (velcro). Use the smooth side in the internal runners. Should be thin enough to not inhibit entry of the tray or misalign a loaded tray. Try (say) bottom runner first and then add top if needed. {Not my original idea! Tried it on an old 221 model nas and it worked quite well}

The velcro tape worked great. I placed the soft side of the tape on the bottom hard drive bracket. Now the hard drive enclosure runs much quieter.
