how do I reinit f8 plus without losing data

Post by kundeng »

My TNAS PC app on Mac shows the underlying system is still working, as also proven by SMB connections to shared folders. But the web interface is dead.
This just happened shortly after I tried to create a second volume in the same pool. I noted that the second volume is created, but it shows it has already used up 2TB out of 3.7TB, which is incorrect, as it was just created. Afterwards, the system went berserk.

My question:
1. Is it possible to recover without losing data?
2. If not, how can I reset?

Note, SSH is not enabled, so I can't log in to check what the freak is happening.

I am now inclined to return it, as this is clearly impossible after I spent 700 USD + 800 USD on NVMe disks.

Note I even tried to reset it by pressing the reset button while powering on. It beeped 3 times, and I can see on TNAS PC that the device is now shown as uninitialized, but I still can't reinitialize it. All the links directed me to a dead web page in the browser.

After I recycled the box, the machine came back as ready in the TNAS PC app. I still am unable to log in to the web interface.

1. You can change your IP address through TNAS PC and try logging in after the change is successful.
2. If you still cannot log in, you can long press the reset button on the machine, then turn it on. After hearing three beeps, you can proceed with the initialization process.

change IP? What? The IP is correct, it is shown in the TNAS PC app, that's what the TNAS PC app is using and plus what should I change it to?

I was able to put this thing into a reset mode, but it didn't help. No init screen, just web errors. The web UI is toast. The system is too brittle to be of any practical use.
