TOS5 (and maybe 6) system partition

Post by Brodieman »

When TOS 5 came out, there is the warning "Due to TOS 5.1.40 system partition requires more storage space, this update is only applicable to TOS 5.1.24 or higher version and system partition needs to be larger than 2GB, if TOS version is lower than 5.1.24 or system partition needs to be smaller than 2GB, please do not update!".

I was able to update just fine and did not have an issue. However, I am thinking more on this, where does TOS install too? Is there an internal SSD I can upgrade?

It installs to each HDD. There's a forthcoming feature in TOS 6 that'll let you choose to only install the system to a designated drive, however it's currently not available.

The internal USB drive is purely for initial booting; it contains nothing but a script.

Thanks! My plan is, when TOS 6 comes out, to wipe the NAS 100%. System and Raid and rebuild. Was looking to see if I could make sure this system partition is big enough for future updates. I assume, the system partition is build automatically and I cannot change that?

Once there's a stable non-beta TOS 6 build, there'll be a .INS to do a fresh installation either manually or via direct Internet download from Terra-Master servers in the initialization boot, which would partition everything accordingly (with the larger 8 GB system partition); current TOS 6 beta builds rely upon an older TOS 5.1.1×× build to be installed (which already uses a larger 8 GB system partition) as the betas are only available as an in-place upgrade.

So if I do a fresh install of 6, it should do a nice large system partition then? Perfect thanks! I'll attempt that once available.
