Really Really Slow Transfer Speeds

Post by 13ondy »

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so I'm hoping I've posted this in the right section.

I recently purchased a Terramaster D5-300C and the transfer rates are shocking im maxing out at 20.5 mbps

I am running a Beelink mini s12 pro, i have purchased a usb c female to usb male adapter 3.1 10GBPS to see if that would boost transfer speeds but nothing still only hitting 20.5mbps max.

I have 2 western digital white labels 10tb and 1 white label 12tb all new

Can someone tell me why the transfer speeds are so slow as its driving me nuts

I have followed the guide and after some Messing about managed to increase the transfer rate to 100mb/s still not quite the speed that this said it would do but better then it was.

The thing that's annoying me now is that the drive's keep over heating, which makes me think the fans on this das are rubbish, I have had warnings on unraid about drives getting to hot while on this device.

Never had these problems when the drives were in there own USB cases before being shucked for the terramaster.

So far my impressions havent been good at all, im unimpressed with the problems I keep seeing with this D5 -300C.

I guess if you buy cheap (not that this is overly cheap ) then this is what happens, I have just read quite a few other posts stating how hot there drives have got in these devices.

I'm sure the op will try to say its something I'm doing wrong. I will give it a few more days to see if it settles down as I can't keep a fan running in front of the das 24/7 just to try to keep it cool, because the fans in it aren't doing there job.

Hopefully in the next few days this will perform as it should have in the first place if not a youtube video showing my findings will go up and the item sent back.

Hi,

Same mini PC as the OP but I have the D6-320, so as a guess they have the same USB Bridge chipsets (Asmedia)

[codeBus 002 Device 005: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge
Bus 002 Device 008: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge][/code]

Using dmesg, I found that with supplied Terramaster USB3 cable I experience storms of USB resets and woeful performance. After going down the dead end of trying to diagnose Intel/USB/Smartmon/USBquirks. I found a reddit post that suggest the molding around the Beelink USBC port wasnt great.

I purchased a new USBC cable from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09WMDMLDG? ... ct_details and bingo all errors gone.

Performance for my truenas scale zraid 1 - (4x Seagate X16 12TB drives) is a sustained 90MB/s read and write.
