Can't access F4-210 or F2-423

Post by 321PeteD »

I have two TerraMaster NAS systems.
Primary: F2-423 running TOS version: TOS_X642.0_5.1.29
Backup: F4-210 running TOS version: 4.2.41-2203011629

Primary NAS: 5.1.29
Everything was working fine. Listening to streaming music on the primary. Watching plex. SMB/NFS Access.
I had trouble logging in to update the software to 5.1.40.
None of my accounts were available (admin, superuser, personal)
I thought it might be due to some power outages we've recently had, so I did a power button shutdown and restart to do it more gracefully.
It still didn't work so I came here to see what was new. Then I saw all the posts about ransomware. After researching that, it doesn't look like that same problem. But the system is currently shut down to be safe. When I did boot it back up it wasn't accessible.

Backup NAS: 4.2.41
After my primary system was hosed, I wanted to make sure that my backup was safe.
Its not.
I was greeted by the installation wizard, and got an email with a new verification code.

They are both currently powered down in case its some type of ransomware attack. This happened about a week after I opened up port forwarding to my plex server on my primary NAS so that I could access media remotely.

I don't know what to do next.

It seems that there have been varying degrees of unknown errors in both devices. And all of them make the system unable to operate normally.
We suggest that you try reinstalling TOS for them first to restore their normal operation, although this will clarify the configuration information.

(Please note that there is a possibility of hard disk issues. If you are prompted to format/create after setting up the initial administrator, please do not proceed to the next step.)
A power outage usually has a high possibility of causing file system damage. Please refer to the following repair methods for them:

Its alarming that these types of catastrophic operating system failures happen with a simple power loss. I understand having an incomplete file that might have been in the middle of a transfer, but this is unreal. How do I prevent these types of failures? I have both devices on UPS battery backups.

I'll focus on the F2-423 First.
I try to log on with three different users that were defined in the system: admin, superuser, and MyName.

admin: Error: Operation failed; invalid username or password
superuser: Error "User not exists!"
MyName: Error "User not exists!"

Popped out the HDD and Hypercache NVME drives.

Restarted, got this error:

Code: Select all

This site can’t be reached
192.168.0.5 refused to connect.
Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Reinserted HDD

Opened up 192.168.0.5 in private browsing tab to reinstall TOS.
Restarted
Recreated users.

It looks like all my data is still here, but to reconfig is going to take time. I don't trust the TerraMaster OS after this, so I'm going to try freenas on my backup.

Data base on your system may be corrupted. 5.1.29 is quite out of date, you need to update to 5.1.41, We have introduced new countermeasures in the new version to reduce the risk of system file corruption.
