After unplugging the hard disk for the initial installation of the TOS system, the TOS system cannot be started?

Post by RyanYang »

Applicable Model:
F2-220, F2-420, F4-220, F4-420, F5-420, F2-221, F2-421, F2-422, F4-221, F4-421, F4-422, F5-221, F5- 421, F5-422, F8-421, F8-422, F2-423, F4-423, T6-423, T9-423, T12-423, T9-450, U4-423, U8-423, U8-450, U12-423

Applicable version:
TOS 5.1.40

Symptoms:
Unplug the hard disk that initially installed the TOS system in the TNAS device, and only keep the hard disk added later in the device. Then turn it on, the network indicator of the TNAS device is off, only the power indicator is on, and it cannot be searched through the TNAS PC client.
For example, use a SATA hard disk or M.2 SSD to install the TOS system, and then insert other hard disks, create storage pools and volumes in the TOS control panel, and then shut down and unplug the hard disk inserted during system installation.

Cause Analysis:
The TOS 5.1.40 version has adjusted the TOS system disk, and the hard disk that has not participated in the initial installation system does not have the TOS system. For the system before TOS5.1.40, the hard disk added after installing the TOS system has system information.

Solution:
Do not unplug the system disk of TOS to use.

I think we might need some clarification on this subject.

If (for example) I have a system that was UPGRADED to 5.1.40 and then add another disk, will the added disk have system info?

Does this apply to all file system types?

Will this situation be reversed in subsequent releases?

Not to mention the obvious - How, why did this happen?
F5-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid

I'm also curious about this in case TM reps have had time to review the question - thank you.
