Direct connect to laptop
I have been able to connect via my network and save some files. However, I have folders that may have hundreds of pictures or videos I want to save within the folder but cannot just transfer the folder. Two questions:
1. I have tried connecting the laptop directly to the NAS via ethernet cable (as instructed on a Youtube tutorial) and it is never recognized as being connected. How do I connect the NAS directly to my laptop for much simpler file transfer? This is the whole reason I purchased this device.
2. For those times I am connected to my network, how can I transfer folders to the NAS without having to select individual files?
For my purposes, I need to be able to plug the NAS into my laptop for easiest and quickest file transfer.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Direct connect to laptop
Why do you need to connect the NAS directly to your laptop? you can send files or folders via smb file service.
login your TOS, go to Control panel > network service > file service > smb, you can find the instruction on how to connect via smb file service.

Re: Direct connect to laptop
You must not have read my initial post. I stated the reason I want/need to connect directly to the NAS. Seems very straight forward and am looking for an answer to that question specifically. Is it possible for you to answer that question?
I do not know what you are referencing and, again, want to connect directly without using a service.

TMroy - My initial post had 2 separate questions as well. The other question was about transferring folders rather than individual files.

It seems like you bought the wrong product; you need a direct-attached storage (DAS) not network-attached storage (NAS), if all you're doing is backing up or offloading data.

Re: Direct connect to laptop
TNroy,
I followed your instruction "login your TOS, go to Control panel > network service > file service > smb, you can find the instruction on how to connect via smb file service." When I entered the requested address into the Files Explorer, it said nothing is found. I tried to do a screen shot, but the forum will not allow me to paste it here.
Again, please pass along specific instructions so I can begin using this device, if you will allow me to connect directly to my laptop.

Re: Direct connect to laptop
Well....just because I want to do a direct transfer when circumstances require (and Terramaster said it was possible) that does not mean I will not use the network capabilities...as I already have. Is it too much to ask to be able to use more than one function on a device that stated it can be used in more than 1 way?
Re: Direct connect to laptop
Well, you can connect the NAS device directly to your laptop. As in such a scenario, there is no HDCP server between your NAS and your laptop, so you have to manually configure IP address and gateway of the network port on your NAS and your laptop to be the same network segment, you have some works to do on this. Not over yet, if you want your NAS to connect back to the network and share with other devices, you have to reset all your previous settings. A NAS device is not designed to be used like this, but this is up to you.
One more thing, when you success direct connect the NAS to your laptop, you also need a file service to transfer your files or folders. When you are able to enable the smb, nfs file service, sure you can transfer a folder.
by the way, What is your model? F2-210?

Re: Direct connect to laptop
Thank you, TMroy. I have enabled SMB. Do you have instructions on how to transfer a folder? I watched a video and followed it but it is nothing like my windows laptop, so the tutorial was not pertinent for me. If I can get folders transferred, this will solve half of my battle and will be much appreciated. Again, I do not work in IT...am in the medical field, so instructions would be helpful in accomplishing this task.
Yes, I have a F2-210
Thank you for your help and getting me further along than I was 6 hours ago. I have spent at least 21 hours on this and while I can transfer files, manually recreating hundreds of folders on the NAS, containing tens of thousands of files, does not seem to be taking advantage of the device I purchased from you.
