[Help] Project Compose Config File has been deleted

Hello,

Looking for some guidance to resolve an issue inside the container manger after I upgraded Immich. After following the regular instructions to upgrade Immich to the latest version I'm now getting an error on the Immich project stating "Compose configuration file has been deleted"



The last time I upgraded Immich I had no issues so just wondering if there is something that changed or I missed potentially. I ran the following commands inside my immich directory and immich is running just fine:

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d

Just wondering if there is some way I could clear this error as the compose file is still in the directory same place its always been. Appreciate any help!

We have tested this scenario in our internal environment, but have not been able to reproduce the issue so far.

To help us further investigate and attempt to reproduce the problem you described, could you please provide a few more details:

• Your specific TOS version (you can check this under TOS Web UI > Control Panel > General Settings > System);

• The exact version number of Container Manager currently installed.

Current TOS Version is : 7.0.1188

Cotainer Manger version is : 2.2.025

To note, nothing is at least appearing wrong with Immich. Its still fully running and usable it just seems with the latest version update it must have remade? the docker-compose.yml file and then the Project inside Container Manger is not seeing it? Not sure if that helps.

To pinpoint the exact cause, we'd like to confirm one key detail: during this upgrade, did you re-download or modify the docker-compose.yml in any way? (For example, adjusting the database section per Immich v3's VectorChord migration guide, or re-downloading the file from the official release.)

Here is the background:

- Immich's official standard upgrade process (https://docs.immich.app/install/upgrading/) only requires running `docker compose pull && docker compose up -d` in your existing compose directory, and does NOT modify the compose file itself;
- However, if the docker-compose.yml was replaced or rewritten during the upgrade (the v3 VectorChord migration does require editing this file), that "delete old file, write new file" action would trigger Container Manager's project file-validity check, producing exactly the "Compose configuration file has been deleted" message;
- If you are certain the file was never touched, this points to an issue with the project record itself, and we will forward it to our test team for further reproduction and investigation.

If the first scenario applies, you can clear the error simply by re-associating the project with your existing file:

1. In Container Manager > Projects, remove the Immich project showing the error (important: do NOT select any option to delete containers or data when removing the project);
2. Create a new project by importing the current docker-compose.yml in your Immich directory, keeping the same project name as before;
3. The running Immich containers will be automatically recognized and adopted into the new project, and the error will disappear.

Hi CursaYang,

So yes for upgrading I only ran those 2 commands within the immich directory and did not manually edit the compose file. My thought was potentially this particular upgrade would have triggered something to update in the compose file but otherwise I did not edit it myself.

I will attempt to remove and recreate the project after I'm able to take a backup copy of my photos. Thank you for the assistance.

I wanted to follow up with I realized I ran the commands before I "stopped" the project so possibly that could be the reason for the error? But otherwise I will circle back here after completing your recommendations. Thank you again.

Just confirmed, deleted the project and was able to remake with no issues. Error is gone and immich is still functioning normal.
