[Help] Help how do I get the amount of storage I need?

I have the following disks... 12, 12, 2, 2, 2 ,3, 3 TB. I had all my backup, 6 TB on a single 12TB disk. The Terramaster raid calculation says if I add all the disks I can have 24TB of space ... great. But I think I made a mistake because I added the 12TB to the first 12TB, now it won't let me add the smaller drives. Did I screw up?
But if I added the 3TB to my 12TB, would it have allowed me to do so, seeing as I'm already storing 6TB there, or would it have rejected it because it would have wanted to shrink the 12TB down to 3TB first?
How can I recover from this? My thought it to remove a 12TB from the array. Format it, copy all my data there as a single disk. Then recreate the array with 12, 2, 2, 3, 3, then copy my data back, then add the 2nd 12 back to the array, thereby giving me the maximum space. Is that how I should recover from this?

Your interpretation is accurate. As you began with two 12TB drives, this established the minimum member capacity for the RAID array.
The solution you are considering is viable.

If I start with 12 + 3 + 2 + 2, and then later add another 12, on TRAID, will I get the 19TB the TRAID calculator says? Because in the past I have not seemed to get the advertised amount depending on what order I do things.

You can first create a TRAID using the 12TB, 3TB, 2TB, and 2TB drives, which will provide approximately 7TB of available storage space.
After moving your 6TB of data into the TRAID, you can then add the 12TB drive to the existing TRAID. Once the expansion process is completed, you will have approximately 19TB of usable storage space, which should meet your expected capacity requirements.
Please make sure to keep a backup of important data before performing any storage pool expansion operations.

I implemented that plan, and all I got was a very disappointing 14.4TB, not 19TB
