We haven't received any feedback regarding NAS devices damaging hard drives. Since the NAS boots normally without a hard drive installed, it's highly likely that your hard drive is faulty or incompatible. If your hard drive was purchased from an official channel, it should be covered under warranty in case of damage. You can test it with a small-capacity SSD and install TOS.

The ssd is recommended by terra master ans was fully recongnized by the F8 SSD PLUS at first start, but you know how hard it is to buy ssd those days… So I need to be sure before asking for a full replacement for 2 SSD that worked well at first…

Now you have a keyboard and can access the bios, have you tried resetting bios to defaults/factory? Have you thought about clearing the cmos, just to be certain the box is 'clean' in itself? (E.O.E.)

Hi, thanks for your help. Yes I tried this, and still have the problem…

Hi.
You previously successfully entered the boot system with an SSD installed (3 beeps indicate entry into the boot system).
Now that you mention being 'stuck at GRUB,' is the same operation unable to enter again?

The initial 'freeze' might have been caused by excessive disk I/O from automatic RAID synchronization, leading to high load and blockage.
You can try restarting several times with the SSDs.
Please keep observing to see if you eventually see 'Welcome to TNAS' and 'Login:' (this indicates the TOS system has started successfully).

Hello, and thanks for your help.

Yes, but as I said in the first post it worked only the first time… I was able to install tos on the 2 ssd, the it froze when proposing to create the volume. Didn’t get time to say yes… Then tried to reset… Heard the 3 beeps, and that was the last time…

Since then, the only way for hearing the 3 beeps is to remove the 2 ssd…

I don’t know what to do…

Hi.
Thank you for mentioning this again. We have also considered this after your previous mention.
Please first try the method I just mentioned. Before starting the NAS, insert two SSDs and attempt to start it several times.

Additionally, if you have not installed the included heatsinks on the SSDs?(Some SSDs generate a lot of heat, and installing a heatsink can prevent overheating.)
If you have installed the OS on both SSDs simultaneously, you can try inserting only SSD A before starting, observe the situation, and then try inserting only SSD B before starting, observing the situation again.

We look forward to your subsequent test results, as they will be very helpful in identifying the issue.

Thank you for your continued support.

I have completed the tests you suggested. Here are the results:

1) With both SSDs installed:
  • Attempted approximately 10 restarts
  • Same error every time (stuck at GRUB with "Invalid magic number")
  • Never able to access the web interface
  • Never heard the 3 beeps
2) With SSD A only:
  • Same result as above
  • No 3 beeps, cannot access the system
3) With SSD B only:
  • Same result as above
  • No 3 beeps, cannot access the system
4) With no SSDs installed (for confirmation):
  • NAS boots perfectly
  • Hear the 3 beeps
  • Web interface displays the "no drives installed" message
Note: I did install the included heatsinks on both SSDs before the initial setup.

The fact that both SSDs behave identically and the NAS works fine without them suggests the issue might be related to the system installation itself or how the SSDs were initialized. What would you recommend as the next step?

Thank you for your efforts and contributions. After further communication, we have confirmed that the device itself and the boot system are functioning correctly. We suggest you try the following methods:

1. Format your NVMe drive using a computer and then reinstall the system (if you don't have a computer with an NVMe interface, you can consider borrowing one from a friend or family member).

2. If the first method is not feasible, try installing the TOS system on a different NVMe drive.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to further clarification.

It is recommended that you install the two SSDs into NVMe slots 5-8 for testing. Additionally, you can reformat these two SSDs, then install them into the F8 SSD slots, and proceed to install the TOS system on them for testing. Furthermore, you may update the motherboard BIOS and the firmware of the PCIe expansion chip (ASM2806) to see if the same issue persists.viewtopic.php?t=8961
