When using a mini PC, you need to use a USB HUB docking station to connect to the DAS because the USB signal of the mini PC is very poor.

Please try swapping the positions of the hard drives to test whether the failure is always with the hard drive, in order to verify whether the problem is with the D4-320 slot or the hard drive itself, although you mentioned that this is a new hard drive.

It seems like the hard drive issue. Have you tried swapping in a different drive?

I have had 3 different drives with problems in this setup, over the last 2 months. 2 were used, but still, to many to be coincidence.
TBH I am looking hard at dropping this whole setup in favor of a quiet lower idling mini-itx setup with an actual power supply. Too many gotcha's with USB enclosure, mini PCs, etc.
